I had previously tried one of these nitrogen ice cream places in Ft. Lauderdale and really loved the concept so I was eager to take my daughter when she came home from college. Unfortunately for me I live on one side of University Dr. and this store is on the other side. Until Parkland in willing to allow a University Road extension this place is a bit of a hike for me and will probably keep me from going on a regular basis even though I loved it.
Like the other place a tried which is in no way affiliated with this business, nitrogen is used to super cool the base liquid with toppings added into ice cream. Mixers were used at the other places and here the girls working the counter were forced to do it by hand giving them a great arm work out. The thing I liked better about this place was there were way more options for your creation. To start with there are 7 base options including non dairy and sugar free. There are a whopping 43 base flavor options, broken into three flavor categories fruity, classic, and specialty. Under specialty there was even a flavor called tigers blood. Add to that 34 topping possibilities and the combinations you can make are endless. I was too tired to come up with a masterpiece which is why I was really glad that they did the thinking for me with their ready made combinations called sensations. A small is $5.69 and includes the waffle bowl. I picked the magnetic mint which was mint flavor, oreo, andes mints, and fudge topping. My daughter chose the Bernoulli Brulee which was caramel, dulce de leche, vanila and cinnamon flavor, heath, and twix. We both loved our ice cream. Every bite had some of the toppings in it.
The staff here were super friendly. Once you try one of these fun nitrogen places it's hard to go back to a boring regular ice cream shop. I find that I prefer the texture of the ice cream that the quick freeze of the nitrogen gives it. They will even refreeze your treat for you if it...
Read moreTerrible at this new location. I always really enjoyed Sub-Zero when it was down the street by Public, but this new concession stand location just doesn’t compare. The selection of flavors and toppings is drastically reduced and the service isn’t good. They only had tops for the regular sized cups and they don’t have bags. Apparently it was too difficult to put a small size in a regular cup after I said I wanted a top. No peanut butter cups, peanut butter, butterfingers or heath bars as a topping...what kind of ice cream shop is this? They use to be 5-stars, now they...
Read moreMy kids and I absolutely LOVE this place!!! Besides how delicious the ice cream is, it’s the coolest thing in the world watching it get made and frozen right in front of your eyes. There are so many flavors to choose from and so many toppings. But the part where it gets frozen with nitrogen just never gets old. It’s mesmerizingly captivating. And the service is great!!! I’m from out of town, but whenever we’re back in Parkland, we’ll be sure to visit Sweet Lou’s for some nitrogen ice cream....
