We stopped in after hearing it was the best bar in Paxton, NE. We are from South Carolina, headed to Bend. We spent a dollar on the "chance" slot game and won twenty five! We played some pool and talked to a few natives there whom were so friendly. A regular who usually comes there told us his story and a little about his town. When our food came out, it was BEYOND delicious. I ordered a loaded baked potato and my husband got the chicken strips with fries. It was the best food we had had in a long time, especially after the road. The bartenders were so nice and very helpful. We went around three pm mountain time and they only had a handful of people so that's great for anyone who doesn't like crowded places. However, when dinnertime rolls around that place can get pretty packed! Some of the nicest people I have met have been in Nebraska. I would definitely visit this town again!

Do you LOVE a small town restaurant with food and daily specials that don't disappoint?! Windy Gap restaurant in Paxton, Nebraska is it! Today's lunch special is New York strip steak with baked potato, corn and a garlic bread stick for $12.95. Steak was juicy and tender. Garlic stick is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. The patty melt off the menu is thick hamburger, sauted onions and melted American cheese on toasted marble rye bread. A side of crispy waffle fries completes the meal and is one of the best I've ever had. Reasonably priced. Come hungry!

This place was incredible. Buddy and I were looking for a lunch place other than fast food or quick grill food and found this place on our way to Montana. The lady behind counter suggested their buffet or menu. We tried the buffet. OMG. As my buddy commented the food tasted better than what his mamma makes. And I know his mom and her food is great. This food was so flavorful and great price. The local customers were friendly. We are stopping here again on our way home.

I came in on Thursday at 5pm. Prime dinner time. I ordered the special. Whiskey Steak, with choice of potato and salad bar.

Salad bar was typical bag iceberg lettuce with optional peas, croutons, hardboiled eggs, and shredded cheese. With a surprising variety of dressing options

I got a plain baked potato which did come with packets of sour cream and margarine.

I'm not certain what cut of meat the ateak was, but I would guess the off-cut of round steaks.

I ordered it medium rare and it came out with a raw center and barely room temperature. Very concerning. Especially since the potato came out piping hot.

Decent service, but you pay before the food comes out, with prompt for tip. So I worry that with the 20% pre-tip that this is what quality we received.

If you try here, I hope your experience is...

Went in and yes there is no maitre d' and yes everyone is too busy to really stroke your ego as half of Nebraska appeared to be there on a Friday night. Pulled up my big boy pants and asked if seats were taken and the waitress said no have a seat, what do you want to drink. Gave me a great local brown ale. I ordered the Peking duck and the wife ordered Bouillabaisse. Seriously, look around what do they have plenty of steaks and potatoes and that is what we ordered and the best I have had in a long time. Would have paid $200 in Los Angeles for that. Got to speak with the new owner and the former owner who came in to help him on a busy Friday...
