Dear White Owl Steakhouse Team, I am writing to inform you of a recent change in my opinion of your restaurant. My wife and I have been loyal patrons, often making the 45-minute drive from our lake community to dine at your establishment. For my birthday, my wife suggested we visit the White Owl Steakhouse, knowing how much I enjoyed my previous visits, especially the ribeye steak. We’ve returned several times since, always finding the food delicious and the service excellent. Earlier this year, I brought friends from Seattle, and we had a fantastic experience. My friend enjoyed the roast beef, and I had the ribeye again, which was just as delicious as I remembered. In August, we brought family members, and all four of us had a great meal. However, our visit on September 12th was disappointing. The restaurant was not busy, with only a few booths occupied and a large table of about eight people in a separate room. Despite this, the service was lacking. We waited a long time to place our order, and even longer to receive rolls and salads. When my steak finally arrived, it was not the ribeye I had ordered, but a dry “chalky” New York strip. I informed the waitress, who argued with me but took it back and returned with a better steak, definitely a Ribeye this time but it was still not up to your usual standard. Also she forgot there were no potatoes, mushrooms/onions, or vegetables on the plate this time—just the steak. My wife and I took a couple of bites and decided to leave. The only difference I can think of is that we visited on a Thursday night, whereas we usually come on Fridays or Saturdays. Perhaps there were different cooks or staff, but something was definitely off. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning for a while if the experience is...
Read moreThis was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. Walk in and ask for a table for 3. We were met by the Waitress/Hostess who couldn’t have been more than 14 and had the look of someone who would rather drink bleach than help us. She says in a bothered attitude sit where ever. Our drink orders and meal were placed and only one drink showed up. I asked what the sides were since it only said a starch and vegetable, I wanted to know what the options were. I asked and was told a starch and veggie. I asked if she could elaborate since that’s a wide range. Once that mystery was solved. We watched a family come in stand around for roughly 5-10 minutes before being acknowledged. The girl said in the same manner sit where ever. The mans faces was in shock! She also said the kitchens backed up so you should just leave, which they did. Back to our story. After a 15 minute wait for the other drinks, we went to the bar and placed them. The salad never came out, steaks were not cooked as requested, but dare not say anything. At this time the young waitress has a new table to fight with and boy was that fun to watch. The bill came and my buddy noticed he was charged for the mushrooms which he did not receive on his steak. She was with the look of you cheap scumbag, I can get you a dollar out of the register. I am most fell from my chair in laughter at this point the service was so bad I found it funny. In the end I will never step foot in that place again. Word of warning stay away unless you like abuse. This place is an...
Read moreMy family and I recently went to the White Owl for dinner. I have been once before and was happy to have the chance to go back. I had the schnitzel, my husband had the Pork Mignon, and my kids had the chicken wings. I love that the menu is varied enough to accommodate our tastes. And the food was delicious, we all enjoyed our meals. Our server, Miranda, was a doll. I felt a little bad because we were asking her so many questions, but she answered all of them and made some great suggestions, and stated she didn't mind all the questions because she wanted us to be happy with our meals. So sweet! I didn't give 5 stars for the atmosphere because I don't think it matched the quality of the food. The space is split between a bar and dining room. I liked that, because I never enjoy going somewhere for a dinner and being seated near the bar. So that was good, but the dining room needs a little updating. There is a large cooler against the wall labeled "Desserts" but it was empty. Either fill it or move it out of site. And there was a bar behind me and I wasn't sure why it was there, maybe for the staff to prep dishes? It seemed out of place. And the lights over the bar didn't have any shade over them so if you were facing the bar, you had a view of about 4 or 5 bright bulbs. I think the place has so much potential. The food is great. Put a little more thought into the decor and vibe of the dining room and you may just get some of the families who stay at Woodloch to come...
