My husband and I came here on a whim for Valentine's Day, and what a beautiful lunch it was. Our server was very bubbly, welcoming, and kind. There are beautiful views of the water no matter where you're seated. They had music playing lightly in the background, and it was quite busy, but we were seated quickly. My only complaint is it was a chilly, windy day, and I was seated right by the door, so every time it was opened (which was frequently), I nearly froze. I should've worn something warmer. They also have lovely outdoor seating, which I love, even though it was too cold to partake on the day we went.
We started with some sourdough bread, some fried oysters, and a bloody mary. The bread was cool, but very good. The fried oysters were absolutely delicious. They were fresh and plump, with a light, crispy breading that was perfectly seasoned. They came with a garlic aioli that was the perfect addition. The bloody mary was small, but still tasty with a spicy kick to it, but be warned if you have the soapy cilantro gene, the bloody mary comes with a healthy dose of chopped cilantro on top, which I could have done without.
For lunch, I got the cioppino and my husband got the rock crab after they told him they'd run out of whole Dungeness crab for the day. My cioppino was delicious. The broth was flavorful, but let the seafood take center stage. There were mussels, clams, crab claws, and white fish. All of them were perfectly cooked and fresh. My husband's rock crab claws came with several claws (at least 12 to 15) and with a slightly spicy Cajun butter sauce, and he ordered a side of fries which were just fries, but still very good and came with the same garlic aioli the fried oysters had. We both loved our dishes, and we shared a few bites with the other.
Overall, it was a lovely experience. I would highly suggest it if you find yourself in the area, and it's also a gorgeous drive no matter which way you're...
Read moreThis little, well-lit hamlet can be found sitting only on the water's edge of Tomales Bay, and it provides views that are among the most beautiful you are likely to come across anywhere in the world. Tomales Bay is located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. The restaurant, which is now run by Hog Island Oyster Co., provides its customers with an approach to outstanding seafood that has been caught or harvested in seas that are located in close proximity to the area in a manner that is unpretentious but very delicious. This seafood has been caught or harvested in seas that are located in close proximity to the region. Before going on to grilled oysters that have been covered in a smoky-sweet barbecue sauce, it is recommended that you begin with freshly shucked Sweetwater oysters as a good place to start. This is an excellent point from which to start. After that, you are free to go on to the many other methods of food preparation that are available. Both the clam chowder and the mussels that have been prepared in white wine and garlic make for excellent choices when placing an order. You should go there for lunch on a Saturday when the weather is great and the sun is shining since it would be the best time to go. On the way there, you will travel through lush green hills and along the edge of the California coastline, which will provide you with breathtaking views of the vast...
Read moreWonderful dining experience. I had the HIOC ("Hog Island Oyster Company") Bloody Mary, a dozen chef choice raw oysters on the half shell, and a side of the House-made Pickles. Not cheap (but hark, who wants cheap raw seafood?) Still, a worthwhile splurge for oyster fans. Really nice patio right on Tomales Bay.
The Bloody Mary was a total stand out to me (and I know my tomato-booze!) They make it with Soju rather than vodka. The mix had the perfect amount of horseradish, a subtle hit of clam juice, and minced green onions as a garnish which were really nice. I shall be incorporating them into my Bloody Mary's forthwith!
The oysters were perfect. They gave me 5 varieties, and not one of them was a miss. Their mignonette and house hot sauce are really nice too. I tried the oysters plain, with lemon, with mignonette, with hot sauce, and with all permutations of those 3 dressings. All hits. These are a serious treat.
House pickles were a nice little side dish! They had traditional cucumber pickles in there, but also pickled carrot, radish, napa cabbage (possibly bok choy idk), and a really tasty turmeric cauliflower. If you like pickles, you'll like this side. They aren't outrageously salty either.
Make the drive! It's a thoroughly enjoyable pit stop for a Marin County day trip. Pack a sweater!! The wind can really get whipping off...
