Recently came to the area and asked the locals where we should go to for a great meal. They said try the Perma Stone Inn. We arrived on a Tuesday around 1:30 pm for lunch. It was very quiet with just one person drinking at the bar and a large loud television playing the History channel. I now know things about the Romain’s and their water source that I hadn’t before. We sat at the bar to order our drinks and lunch. Shortly after being there the bar person showed up to welcome us with a menu. We ordered our drinks and our sandwiches while we glazed at the television. We also looked around and noticed how dirty the place was as flies started arriving. Here’s a fly there’s a fly everywhere there’s a fly oh my just so many flies. So we started to take a deeper look around the place. There was spider webs, fly dropping and a general dirt that all looked like it has lived there before the pandemic of COVID-19. We could tell this place had not had a DEEP cleaning in a very long time. We keep the flies away from the top of our drinks and waited for our meal. Knowing our meals were being visited by flies in the back there was not much we could say but just wonder how dirty the kitchen must be if the front is so filthy. Everything was whipped down and surfaced clean but you can just tell it’s missing a good Deep cleaning. A couple six or so people came in while we were there so it does have clients. Our food arrived. These plates were HUGE. Omg these sandwiches are completely oversized and each plate could feed six people. Well let’s just say these are large sandwiches and the taste was wonderful. This kitchen knows what they’re all about and have no problem delivering a great huge meal. The locals are right the food is fantastic and well worth the price. So my review is simple! Keep your portions, prices and quality of food right where you have them. Great food well prepared and served. Clean house and once you have cleaned house clean again! Get down and dirty and give the place a real DEEP cleaning and then try and figure out away to keep the flies off the menu? There’s a lot of tricks to keep flies away and I’m not talking about your bar flies either. Last is a reminder for me when I return because I will return! Sit at a table because with the portions size I need to be closer to my plate that what the distance the bar puts me at. All in all this is a place to enjoy and the only reason my stars are low on my review is that it needs a good cleaning and to chase...
Read moreI used to love this place. We walked in to join our party that had a reservation, albeit a few minutes late, and waited around 10 minutes and nobody had their drinks. There was another party with us that didn’t make a reservation and came on short notice, but this place has never had issues accommodating for larger parties. I understand the frustration behind this, but the owner’s wife came out and accused us of being rude and cussed us all out in front of our 2 and 3 year olds, and then kicked us all out. It wasn’t extremely busy, so I got the strong impression that the staff just didn’t feel like doing all the work, and it was easier just to cause a scene and make us look like bad people to justify kicking us out.
We all walked out and were deciding where we should go to eat, since we were celebrating my brother-in-law’s birthday. While in the parking lot, a chocolate lab and a german shepherd approached us from the owner’s private property, and the chocolate lab lunged at the 3 year old that was with us and followed him to the car when we got him away from the dog. The dog proceeded to piss all over my girlfriend’s car when he realized he wasn’t getting to our kids. One thing I know about labs, is that they act just like their owners. This would be an expensive series of mistakes if we decided to call the Game Warden.
Take care of your customers and get your dogs on a leash. You behave like this for too long, and you’ll be bankrupt within the year. You’re going to take a hit if you don’t get your dogs under control, and you need to actually serve your customers, even when it’s inconvenient, because that...
Read moreLocated just outside of Galeton, the Perma Stone Inn is a bar-and-restaurant combo that seems to be a popular stop for motorcycle riders—there were several bikers enjoying drinks at the bar during our visit. It has a rustic, casual atmosphere, and oddly enough, Nickelodeon was playing on the TV the entire time, which created a strange contrast to the rest of the scene.
The area was very busy during our visit, and it was clear the staff was overwhelmed. While the restaurant claims to be family-friendly, I’d question that due to the loud profanity coming from the kitchen throughout our meal. It seemed like the cooks were either stressed, short-staffed, or just not in the mood to be there, and unfortunately, that energy bled into the overall experience.
We ordered fried pickles, a grilled cheese, chicken tenders, and fries. After nearly an hour wait, everything came out at once. The food itself was fine—the grilled cheese was good (though it’s hard to mess that up), and the pickles and fries were decent. The chicken tenders were average—nothing to rave about, but they got the job done. Also worth noting: no free refills here.
The dining area has a good number of tables and a full bar, but even with some open seating, the service was extremely slow, and we were close to walking out before the food arrived.
I’m giving this place 3 out of 5 stars because there’s potential here, and maybe we just caught them on a bad day. I might give it another shot in the future, but I hope the management works on staff morale and keeping the kitchen chatter more professional for the sake of customers trying to...
