Update 3/2025: Not sure what happened to this place. Been back twice since I wrote the review last year. First time back, my wife and I ordered two pasta dishes. Both pastas were overcooked. We didn’t say anything at the time hoping it was an off night for the kitchen. The second time was just last night. My wife had the haddock. I had the linguine with white clam. I told our server about the overcooked pasta from last time and asked for al dente. She told me later that the kitchen couldn’t do that for the menu pasta, but could with the fresh pasta. The dish came out a bit watery and had a dud clam full of sand and dirt. I noticed towards the end of the meal and let the server know. I didn’t ask for any comp and since I had eaten most, didn’t expect anything. The server comp’d the meal anyway. Service was top notch all around, but the food has gone downhill. My wife’s fish (stuffed haddock) was dry. Sadly, we aren’t going to be back.
Original review 2024: Great Italian in north central New Hampshire! We showed up on a Wednesday and the place was packed! Hostess was handling a take out order from a fussy customer on the phone. She was super patient. Another server saw us waiting and pitched in to help the hostess. We were told there was a 40 minute wait but if we agreed to a high top at the bar, we could be seated immediately. Naturally, we took that option.
Upon being seated, we were greeted by our server and ordered. The drinks were quick and the lobster garlic knots were a great appetizer. Fluffy and with a tangy hollandaise. Our main courses took a while. Probably a good 30 minutes from the appetizer. I suspect the kitchen was backed up. We ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and the linguine with clam sauce. When the food arrived, it was piping hot. So not the servers being slow! Everything was delicious. The spaghetti needed more sauce, which the restaurant happily provided. Despite the long wait for food, the experience was top notch. We will be back - hopefully on a slightly less...
Read moreMy husband, our 11 yr old son and I had a wonderful dinner here. Aubrey, our waitress, was super friendly and VERY good at her job; she welcomed us, asked if we had eaten there before, and told us the specials of the day. She also came back to check on us several times; asking how everything was, refilling our water, etc. Our (5-piece) aranchini appetizer, which was EXCELLENT, arrived soon after we finished eating our slices of the delicious homemade bread they put out for everyone to enjoy. For entrees my husband ordered the Crema Rosa w/ hot sausage - it was good, creamy...though he would have preferred the sausages to be sliced thicker, as several were paper thin. I tried the Scallop & Shrimp Puttanesca - it was very good; I loved the shrimp, the spaghetti and the puttanesca sauce, though I thought the scallops were a little undercooked. My son had the Fresh Pappardelle Bolognese - he absolutely loved it! [I had thought about ordering that, and kind of wish I had - it did look soooo good!] Only my son and I saved room for dessert; he tried the Tollhouse Brownie Sundae - he said the brownie was hard to eat (he did get braces about 3 or 4 weeks ago...) and tasted "funny," but he enjoyed the vanilla ice cream w/ the chocolate sauce (in hindsight, though he saw "tollhouse" he was still expecting a regular chocolate brownie...hence the reason this tasted funny!). I had the (Vanilla) Creme Brulee. I LOVE Creme Brulee, and will usually order it when I see it on a menu. This CB was very good - the top was the hard, crunchy shell it's known for, and the custard underneath was ...a different texture than I expected, but still VERY good. The texture was more like a very soft cheesecake, more dense than the usual smooth, melt-in-your-mouth custard. I liked it! We all took at least 1/2 of our dinners back to the place we're staying; I'll try to update this tmrw to let you know how the food was the 2nd time around...
Read moreAfter my hike yesterday, I decided to fine a nice place to sit and eat. The local town near the Lost River was packed. So I decided to find something on the way back to the hotel. The name The Italian Farmhouse popped up on my Google maps. Sounded nice. They had Patio seating, Lawn Seating (yes, tables and chairs in front of the place) and inside seating. They looked packed, but I only had about a 20 min wait.
The offered fresh baked bread with an assortment on dipping oils, all hand made there (apparently in Non-COVID times, it's a bread bar that you go up and get the bread and oils you want, as much as you want, but for now they bring it to you)
I decided to spoil myself a bit. When the waitress came she told me about the place and their specials. One of the perks of the place is they have a Greenhouse in back (see last photo) as well as connected to the local farm, so all the Veggies are Farm-to-Table. One special this week was the capricci salad, They had an abundance of fresh tomatoes. I tell you, it was Awesome, never had tomatoes so fresh and crisp like that in a restaurant before. I also got mussels and fried raviolis. I hope my path bring me back this way, I can't wait to try their Pizza!
If your ever up this way, I highly recommend them. Service was great (if very busy) and atmosphere...
