Grill 37 — Restaurant in Pomfret

Very disappointing. Typically when our friends/relatives visit we go to Black Dog. We decided to try Grill 37 last Saturday as it was recommended by coworkers. We got there shortly after 6pm. Waitress Liz was sweet, got our drinks right away and our apps. Then it went downhill.

We were chatting awhile, ordered another round of drinks, waitress disappeared. Over an hour later still no entrees. We watched multiple groups/couples come in after us, order, eat, pay and leave. The waitress again was no where to be found so we had to ask another what was going on around 7:40pm. She quickly came back and told us our food was being plated. Five to ten minutes later, our waitress delivered the food and acted as if nothing happened. My boyfriend saw her talking to other employees and pointing in our direction. I had "maple salmon" that was subpar, no flavor and overcooked along with the rice. I had others try my meal who were in agreement. One of our relatives ordered steak that was room temperature at best. Feels like they threw food on a plate quickly because they forgot. When asked, I was honest about our food.

We are not rude people and hate to complain but this was so bad. It was Applebee's quality but double the price. She told us she would let them now and said sorry. We did not finish our meals. One took theirs home cause it was expensive and didn't want to waste the money. Our relative asked what happened but felt like it was smoke and mirrors. She told us her tickets went to the back of the line but not sure why. She had other tables that were served, finished, and left all after we had ordered.

We didn't ask for anything taken off the bill but the waitress advised the manager would comp a round of drinks but not the entrees. Okay thats appreciated since we didn't ask, but why wouldn't the manager come speak with us?! Wasn't that busy. We did leave a tip, the food quality is not her fault, but this was really poor service and made us feel like we were the problem. Especially to not check in after so long. I've worked in the service industry and customer service for many years, this was not good.

When we first entered we considered asking if we could rent for our wedding reception. After this experience most definitely not. I would like to say we will try again but the chances are low I hate to say. We should have went to Black Dog. This place seems to be going downhill. The last time I was here it was a nice quaint place and the food was excellent. Last night I brought a date for dinner. We were placed by a door, I had asked the waitress if we could move to another table, and her answer was no. Ok, I get it, no problem. Once we were seated, the table had such a wobble in it. I thought our drinks were going to spill. I had the waitress bring a napkin to place under the leg. It was still wobbly but not as bad. Tolerable. We placed our order. For appetizers, we wanted Arincini and calamari. Sorry, out of Arincini. I ordered French onion soup as a backup. For main dishes I ordered teriyaki tips, and my date ordered salmon. The food was decent. My major complaint about this place was how loud it was. It was louder in the restaurant than in the bar. My date and I had a very difficult time talking to each other without almost yelling. It's like I was in a sports bar or something. This made our visit very annoying. It's supposed to be a nice restaurant. No dress code, so you got people wearing baseball hats and looking like they just finished working on a car or were splitting wood all day. It's supposed to be a nice restaurant. And maybe find another place for the smokers. That's all you can smell while walking in the front door....

We went to dinner last night for my mom's 65th birthday, and it was a disaster. We had placed the reservation several weeks in advance, so this was not a last minute notice for the restaurant. The service started out ok, but quickly went down hill. We ordered 2 bread plates and pork dumplings for an appetizer and waited at least 20 minutes, with no communication from our waitress. We then ordered our meals and waited at least 40 minutes before getting up and asking a random person at the front where our food was because we did not have 1 visit from our waitress during that time... the lady we spoke with said the kitchen was backed up because orders all came in at the same time. We then waited another 15 minutes before our food came out. After we ate, which the meals were either not great and not even the correct order, which was the case for the birthday girl, we waited another 20 minutes for the waitress to let us know that the cake we brought would be out soon. The whole night was such a disappointment. I understand being busy but there is no excuse for absolutely no communication from the waitress or staff. That was my first and last visit to...
