Hubby loves GREAT shrimp po' boys and dining on the water. So, for his Father's Day lunch, he chose The North Turn located on south A1A, several miles south of Dunlawton Ave. close to Ponce Inlet. We went on Friday to avoid the line waiting). It's the place (right on the ocean) that has his favorite huge shrimp po' boys .. (and he's tried several thru central FL)! We were seated immediately out on the ocean deck, which was perfect! (we arrived at noon to beat the crowds). It was shaded but it still had great ocean breezes and views with extra air circulation from ceiling fans for those tables next to the wall. We're long time patrons of North Turn and knew what our choices would be, so we didn't need menus. Chris, our smiling, friendly server, took our beverage and food order. He was very accommodating in that he went back into the kitchen to see if I could have an "all flats" wing order and if Sweet Thai Chili sauce was available. The "all flats" were doable (for a $2.00 upcharge), but the sauce was not. I was disappointed that the Thai Chili sauce was no longer an option, so I ordered 10 wings with mild sauce & celery sticks w/blu cheese dipping sauce (ranch is also an option). Our orders were prepared quickly and in no time, we were "chowing down". (see pictures). As always, we were enjoying the tasty, well prepared food, wonderful, and ocean breezes in a relaxing, casual atmosphere.
The cost for this ocean dining luncheon meal was $37.68. (They ended up NOT upcharging me for the "all flats" wings .. a nice surprise)! If you enjoy good food, on the ocean dining, friendly, good servers and somewhat reasonable prices, try the North Turn. It's where Daytona Beach Racing all began so the inside restaurant area has lots of car racing memorabilia scattered around (including a real OLD race car) built by Ron Vogt, pictures on the walls, plus a gift shop available containing racing related choices and other interesting items for purchase. It's definitely an unusual, interesting, good food dining experience. Try it and see for yourself...
Read moreI came here for lunch last Sunday with a few friends around 11:30 Am.. beautiful day.. I haven't been here in a while, but glad we did this day!! The entrance inside very interesting and brings back memories from long ago (goosebumps material) the two ladies as GREETERS 😊 SO warm and welcoming!! We entered in the bar area where we were greeted by a gentleman that was very kind and seated us at the bar with a great view..Our one bartender promptly asked us what our choice of beverages would be while giving us a few "favorites" choices..very impressive 😊..My friends like their beer and one shot of Jameson, while I like my Heineken 0.0. and a shot of water 💦 not to be left out 🤣..Our bartender's name was Abby.. We kind of recognized each other, turns out I was her UPS driver where she had worked previously in Edgewater 😳.. Abby was just as enthusiastic and so genuinely accommodating to me (respected my sense of urgency as well as a being so pleasant) That's a great way to start one's day.. Thank you for that..Our food was brought to us by a gentleman, also kind and energetic.. My friends lunch they had was delicious and plenty of it 😁.. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with all the goodies on it...We had such a great, relaxing visit.. Also our other bartender, worked so well alongside Abby!! Read moreWhile sitting on the beach we watched the plane fly by pulling a banner about North turn grill so we decided to check it out for dinner. This is a really cool place, especially if you're into racing. - lots of Daytona racing memorabilia. There was live music which is one of the reasons we ventured to the North Turn, that and the oceanfront dining. We ordered the fried green tomato BLTs. I had mine with coleslaw and hubby had his with onion rings. The sandwiches were served on very thick Texas toast, with fried Green tomatoes, Apple smoked bacon, lettuce and pimento cheese spread. The sandwiches had about 3 very thin fried green tomatoes and only about 2.5 pieces of bacon. They were also skimpy on the lettuce. In order to get a decent sandwich, I had to combine the bacon and lettuce from one of the halves to the other. The pimiento cheese "topping" was about a 2" smear on the very middle of the bread. We had to ask for more. I wouldn't recommend this sandwich as it's mostly bread and fried green tomatoes. Bacon portions are extremely skimpy as was the lettuce and pimento topping. The flavor was bland. The Cole slaw was okay but had a weird flavor to it. The onion rings had a crispy coating but the onions were tough. We'd go back for the location and try something different. One other strike against the North Turn was that there were ONLY two (singles) bathrooms and they were gender neutral. Personally, as a woman, I prefer using a women's only bathroom. The location is perfect and Brielle, our...
