Today, Saturday, May 10th, the day before Mother’s Day, we visited the Costa Bella Restaurant in Ponce for the first time. We were a group of four, Ponce residents at heart, Ponce residents who support local businesses, but our experience at this restaurant was very poor.
The service was slow, and we were the first table to arrive that day.
We asked for tap water with lemon and were told they don't have drinking water. I felt like they're forcing you to buy bottled water, and that's not the point. If they don't have drinking water, how do they cook? How do they clean? How do they manage the bathrooms?
We ordered a pitcher of sangria, which was excellent, the only excellent thing about our visit. We ordered, and since it took so long to serve us, we asked for a second pitcher of sangria. We were told that it was the last pitcher of sangria. There was a special offer on the house wine for $25 on the table, and we asked for it. After waiting a while for the house wine, we were told they were out of stock but could bring us a similar one for $47. They explained to us that the only two employees in the restaurant didn't know how to prepare the ssngría mixture.
My 93-year-old mother ordered fish broth, which was served cold; it didn't taste like fish, but it did taste like spices.
My son and I ordered the churrasco and lobster dish. We ordered the churrasco medium and it came well done. The lobster was tough and chewy.
My cousin ordered mofongo, which was dry. We ordered a lemon cake for dessert, which wasn't fresh.
Overall, the presentation of the dishes was poor. I'm not a chef, but I do better presentation at home.
We asked for the check and were told we had to go to the counter to pay. I felt like I was in a fast food restaurant.
It's very unfortunate that a restaurant in a spectacular location with a spectacular view has such terrible service and food quality. The only intention of this review is for them to take their business seriously and improve so...
Read moreI have to say I live on the same road as this new restaurant and I haven't been to the island in years, so coming here and seeing how the area has grown and this new addition is set up makes me overwhelmed with joy. We went tonight, which is Sunday, December 15, about 6:30 p.m., and it wasn't too busy at all. Great spot to sit close to the water, and you felt very personal at your table. Our waiter, who has been named in reviews more than once, Wolf, was just amazing. My partner and I both got the steak dinner; I got truffle fries and he got the rice and beans. Both were just amazing—hands down the best dinner we have had on our six-day vacation so far. For starters, we got the fried cheese; it is really small cubes of fried cheese that are like nothing I have ever had. We ordered the caramel brownie with ice cream for dessert, and again, it did not disappoint. If you are near Ponce, you have to make this...
Read moreMy friend visiting from the mainland wanted to check out Ponce. Someone recommended Costa Bella. We were both pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff (our server Wolf) is very informative, attentive, and offered amazing service. The food was phenomenal. Sopa de día was lobster bisque! Probably the best I ever had. My friend that works in fine dining said it’s even better than the lobster bisque at her work! Sitting by the crashing waves and night ocean breeze was the cherry on the cake. I can’t wait to come back...
