Alonso's Crawfish Shack — Restaurant in Port Barre

Alonzo just opened the shack about 3 months ago. Before that time Richard was the original owner so some of these post are from when he had it. My 1st hand experience is I have always enjoyed Richard's crawfish. The 1st time I ordered I ordered and paid for $7lb crawfish. I was pissed when I opened my bag and saw maybe what should have been sold at $3lb. I let it go. The 2nd time I ordered i spoke to Alonzo and he said he graded them and it was the same thing. I spoke to him and he said the order got messed up. So giving him the benefit I ordered this past Saturday the 6th. I was promised the right size for my order. Well I got the same size crawfish. I brought him some of the crawfish to show him and he tried to lie to me again. So I tell everyone DO NOT TRUST WHAT YOU ORDER. Believe me when I tell you I have spent a lot of money in the past and so far this year between me, my son & daughter we have paid $252. But I will not spend another penny. So many thanks to Alonso for rescuing us! We were attempting to plug a tire punctured by two large screws and he offered to take of it for us. We are so thankful for his help! All he asked in return was that we stop by and try his crawfish on our way to New Orleans. Since my family used to own a rig that traveled and prepared boiled crawfish on site, I'm really critical of non-family boiled crawfish. He hit the mark! They we're seasoned well and very juicy. The only recommendation I would offer is that you get them out of the bags quickly. They are cooked to perfection, and if you eat from the bag, your crawfish on the bottom will continue to steam from the heat of the bag and will end up being overcooked. So, stop by if you get the opportunity. The flavor is awesome. If you need to travel a bit, put them in a container that allows them to cool or ask him to cook them less to allow for your travel time. This place is definitely a hidden gem. The crawfish were the best! They are always so Clean and seasond perfectly. I ordered the large and we were very pleased with the size and price. Worth every penny.
