Black River Country Club — Restaurant in Port Huron Charter Township

Arrived at the course 15 minutes before our tee time to see a log jam of 5 carts at the first hole. Apparently, there was a family scramble with multiple groups which we later noticed included some 6somes (2 parents and 4 kids). When we asked if we could start on the back 9 we were bluntly told "no" and that was followed up with "we're 15-20 minutes behind. That's normal". Our round took over 5 hrs to play and there was no sign of a ranger trying to speed up play or let people through. We waited for the group ahead of us on every shot. Absolutely HORRIBLE course management. At the turn, while waiting at the window for our hot dogs the course pro or manager (not sure what his title was) told the gentleman who was getting our food to "shut the window". This person was completely ignorant from the minute we got there. The course itself was in decent shape. The greens were consistent. The fairways were a bit long. The course can be a bit of a shooting gallery as most of the holes are side by side with other holes that run tight together and parallel. Today I had the worst experience of my entire life with a business and that business is Black River Country Club. I had a $500 deposit with them for a class reunion since 2020. COVID shut it down in 2020 and then shut it down again in 2021. I have a signed contract extending the date to 7-26-2025. I have been coordinating the event since early February with the events coordinator Melissa. She told me that yes we are on the books and yes my $500 deposit is intact. Then 2 weeks ago she went dark...no emails, phone calls or texts were being returned. I then today got a call back from the incredibly rude and dishonest owner that they are not honoring my contract and are keeping my $500 saying my contract expired in 2021. The best place in Port Huron for any event. We had a surprise party and the staff was amazing. Kirbylynn was awesome. From the first meeting to the day of the event. She was supportive and extremely helpful, answering all my questions and making suggestions when needed. The day of the event the entire staff from the kitchen to wait staff to the caddy helped without even being asked. The food was outstanding and my guests are still letting me know what a wonderful venue this was. This was one of the most reasonable venues.
