I loved going to eat at the pompano club as a kid, but this place, with new ownership, is just not it. It is owned by the same group that owns the neches river wheelhouse apparently, according to a Beaumont enterprise article I had seen. The neches river wheelhouse is awful. This place is a step up, but also not great either.
They charged high end steakhouse prices and almost nothing out of the experience was comparable to a high end steakhouse.
I went with my grandmother and husband earlier this year, and there were multiple issues with our visit.
The prime rib I ordered was just okay, and the au jus that came with it was flavorless. Just tasted like they poured beef broth into the sauce cup. They put way too much horseradish in the cream sauce and no matter how small of an amount I put on my steak, it burned my nose and completely overpowered any taste of the steak. The breading on my husbands chicken fried steak was thicker than the actual steak. The gravy was just okay.
My husband initially tried ordering their pompano pasta or whatever they call it and our server straight up told him it was no good. And he was very professional too so it wasn’t just him leisurely telling us he didn’t like it. It seemed as though it was something that got sent back a lot and generally had bad feedback with it. Why was it still on the menu? Does the server feel comfortable letting management know about this bad menu item?
It was also so dark that my grandmother couldn’t even read her menu. Just not a good experience overall.
The only thing that saved the night that didn’t make it a total waste of time were the drinks and the service.
If you want a fancy steakhouse experience, go to Houston or...
Read moreMy husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on June 4, 2024 at The Pompano. We called ahead and made reservations, informing the staff that we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. When we were seated, we were asked if we were celebrating anything special, so we explained that we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. It was prime rib night, so I was looking forward to the meal. My husband got the stuffed flounder. He regularly eats fish and loves flounder. My husband said it was the toughest fish he has ever eaten - like eating a shoe. My prime rib was tasteless - very little seasoning if any. The portion sizes were micro tiny, especially my twice baked potato, which barely looked big enough to be plucked from the ground. When the waiter asked how things were, I politely explained our disappointment. He kinda shrugged and said usually the potatoes are bigger than the one I got. He didn’t offer us anything else and didn’t offer for us to speak to a manager. It was our first time, and definitely will be our last time to visit...
