Food was very good, but our service experience was lacking. Open Table reservation was made for our anniversary celebration and we picked the night that they have live jazz. I also indicated that one diner had a gluten allergy.
Upon arrival, the two greeters seemed perplexed when I said we had a reservation. After some whispering and then looking around the restaurant, we were seated at a table in a back room. We didn't hear any jazz, and presumed that the musicians were on a break. Late in our meal, we asked about the jazz music. The server explained that the jazz music was outside only, and we should have asked for an outside table when we arrived. I was disappointed that an advance reservation was not automatically given a table that could hear the music. At the very least, it would have been useful to know the status of outside seating, rather than the whispering. Perhaps we could have chosen to wait, but that was not provided as an option.
The second black mark on the service was with the food and menu knowledge. The menu advertised a "jazz mussels" small plate special. I asked if that was gluten free, and the server confirmed that it was after consulting with somebody in the kitchen. We placed that order while deciding on our entrees. We also asked about an advertised selection of wine specials. It took the server about 5 minutes to return with a card that listed the specials. We immediately selected a bottle because we wanted to get started before our appetizer arrived. We also ordered our entrees at this time, which required another consultation with the kitchen regard
When the mussels were brought out by two young girls, the big bowl of mussels included two large hunks of bread stacked right on top of the mussels. We explained that we were told the dish was supposed to be gluten free, but that the bread contaminated it. I further stated that we couldn't just take the bread off because crumbs had already contaminated the rest of the dish. We said it would need to be remade, but that it would be OK to have the bread on the side. The young girls did not say a word to us. They looked at each other and took the bowl away. We could see them talking to another server.
After a few minutes, our server came back to apologize. She said she put in another order for us. I repeated to her that it would be OK to include the bread on the side. When the new mussels came out, there was no bread at all. My spouse would have liked to stop up some of the buttery sauce after I had taken my portion. I could have said something, but I was feeling guilty about looking like a complainer.
The final service faux pas came with the bill. The mussels were not the advertised price for the "jazzy" special. I remembered seeing mussels on the standard menu, with a small and large option. We were charged the large price ($19) vs the special ($15). Again, I didn't say anything because it did seem like a really generous bowl of mussels. I believe we were served the largest option, but it wasn't really what we had ordered. And I really didn't want to look like somebody that cannot be pleased.
For a restaurant at this price point, I was really disappointed with the level of service. Customer-facing personnel should be open and communicative, not whispering. And the servers should know the menu thoroughly, including any nightly specials. I didn't blame the server. She still received a generous tip. This is a training issue, which is management's responsibility.
Also, the menu should list all major ingredients. The mussels did not include bread or crostini in their...
Read moreI must state by saying I normally go there about once a month for lunch and it is always on point. We went for dinner with friends maybe a year ago and it was fantastic. They did everything perfect with great food and service, it was well worth the money spent. Went today with the same friends and as of now I would not recommend. I had the grouper. It was decent but more along the lines of a $30 price point vs what I paid (I knew what it costed so that is my fault). My wife ordered the short ribs which were cooked correctly but nothing and I mean NOTHING on her plate was seasoned whatsoever. Zero salt used including the mashed potatoes. It was cooked correctly but tasted like nothing. A friend of mine ordered a pot pie. I think it was around $25. It was about a half cup of gravy with 1 piece of chicken with a pastrie top just set on top in a skillet. It was a joke as far as any dish should be concerned. It was not cooked in a skillet it was poured in with the top just set there. This is clear considering it was served with the person holding the bottom of the skillet prior to setting it down. It was beyond cold and had to be sent back to warm it up, when it came back skillet still not hot. Anyway the other friend had a pork lion which he very much enjoyed. I had a glass of bourbon and the wife had a couple glasses of wine. I think out the door we spent around $170. So drinks aside the food probably came to around $110. Not worth it and not good. I really like the place so I hope they get the right people in the kitchen soon, as of now I wouldn't go...whatever is going on in the kitchen needs a massive stoppage and overhaul. Last thing i can say was their seafood chowder was stellar. Everyone agreed on the way home we had wished we had just ordered a giant bowl of it. Do better please, I've loved the place in the past. I'll give it a year.
Edit: I would like to add servers just now wear t-shirts and the couple across from us just took their mudding boots off and had dinner in their socks. The review is just hope that the establishment will see it and bring the place back to...
Read moreThis evening my partner and I ventured to Sandy Point to celebrate our two year wedding anniversary. I have to say that we will not be returning, even for a casual dining experience.
We had a reservation and were seated promptly- this of course is always nice. It took a few moments for a server to come over and greet us, no biggie. We were not given a drink menu however and it took 20+ minutes to get our drink and another 15 to get the app we ordered (meanwhile the table adjacent ordered and got their meals within moments of us getting our apps). The server was not very attentive, only came to the table for a total of 5 times between hello, order, bill- Kara brought out a corona which is not what either of us ordered. There wasn’t any check ins for fresh water or how the food was. We understand everyone has an off night, but even the most inexperienced server should be able to go through the motions.
Now to the food. App: Pierogi Main: Fish and Chips Main: Chicken Piccata Beverage: Paloma Beverage: Punch
The pierogis were over cooked and something that was the equivalent taste out of a frozen box. There were no plates for either of us to dish out the app either, just eating off the dish of the pierogis.
Fish and Chips: Soggy breading, overdone fish Chips/Fries: Decently cooked, however over salted
Chicken Piccata: Sticky pasta, lathered with salt Capers were good The chicken itself had 2X the amount of breading compared to the actual slice of chicken breast.
The beverages were both relatively week, and the glasses were covered in juice/mixers and made a mess.
Ultimately we know people/biz have an off night, can be understaffed or packed, being considerate of this we still were not remotely satisfied, let alone impressed.
Not busy. Long wait times. Lack luster service. Sub pat food, even if it were to cost 1/2 of the menu price.
Oh, and yes we still did the appropriate thing and...
