My family and I wanted to get breakfast this morning and I went to Google for places to eat. I saw this with all the great reviews. I have to say I'm shocked as my experience was poor. My family and I came in and there were no staff. When the waitress came she did not greet us. She sat us to a table and barely spoke. There were speakers above us and the music was borderline too loud. The waitress didn't come to check on us either.

We ordered 2 order of pancakes, kids pancakes (same sizes, different $ amount) and 2 farmers skillets with poached eggs. The pancakes were mediocore, were not the same size and a couple were over done. The skillets had no seasoning, the hash browns were underdone, the onions and green peppers were under done, the sausage was dry and the eggs that we asked to be poached were over done. The food was horrible, the service was very poor. It was overall a very uncomfortable environment and experience.

I took a picture of the skillet with "poached eggs". Wish I would have taken pics of everything.

Pricing is close to going to Perkins. I would have happily spent the extra time and gas to go there instead.

We will not be going back here again and would not recommend anyone going here.

My sister and brother-in-law were visiting us from Washington and the only thing my sister requests while she’s here is fish fry on Friday nights. Last Friday we ate at Cimaroli's Supper Club and had the best fish fry we’ve ever had. A customer at the restaurant told us how good the fish fry was at the Hitching Post, so we decided to try it. We were a party of 6 adults and 2 small children and were told it would be 20 minutes for a table. Almost an hour later my son said that there had been a 6 top that had been open since we got there. Apparently, they were waiting for the table next to it to open to get 2 more seats. (We could have put the children on the end of the table). They finally seated 4 of us at the 6 top and 4 at a 4 top behind us. Hostess NEVER checked with us to update on status of table. We sat there watching people walk in and get seated before us. Felt like the regulars got preferential treatment. We stuck around because we heard the food was amazing. It was NOT. Four of us had fish that was uncooked and inedible. The bartender was good and our waitress, Lisa, was amazing. The food was just plain awful. Will not be returning and will...

My dad and I are in Portage this weekend for family reunion. Wanted to try out a different place to eat so we chose to go to The Hitching Post Pub and Grub. The place was phenomenal great atmosphere and very welcoming staff. Then I looked to the left of the entry way and there was a beautiful salad bar with three choices of soups. We were seated promptly and our waitress (Danielle P. ) came over and took our orders. I wanted the one trip to salad bar so I ordered the beef tips over noodles. It was a great choice the dish came hot and noodles were perfect. My dad ordered the third rack ribs and chicken with hashbrowns and onions. It looked great. Needless to say we both brought leftovers back to hotel. Midnight snack for me. The whole time we were there our very attentive server stopped by several times to ask if we needed anything. Danielle P. keep up the great work you are very good at what you do. Don’t change that great attitude and you will go places. We will definitely be back. Thanks Hitching Post for hiring and training your staff to the work ethics and level of commitment to...

In the city of Portage, WI - I did a search of places to eat and checked many reviews from patrons of numerous restaurants and I decided on the B&B Hitching Post. It is located just off the highway so it is an easy on/off. The interior was very nice and the way the bar and dining areas were set up was very well thought out. The bar area is in the middle section and 2 dining rooms were located on either side. The breakfast menu had some unique items you don't see on other restaurant's offerings. I do love to try new foods so this made me happy. There was a soup and salad bar available which you don't see often any more. The lunch and dinner menu had a big selection of meals. I would recommend B&B to anyone looking for a good meal for a very reasonable price. You get A LOT of food for the money. The only thing that was a bummer was the FOR SALE sign out in front the the building.

My youngest daughter age 19 comes for a visit I haven't seen her in 5 months, we always go to The hitching Post for the spinach artichoke dip (our) favorite appetizer 💯❤️ we ordered that as an appetizer, and entre she had a shrimp wrap, and I had deep fried mushrooms. She takes a few bites into it she stops and she pulls out a piece of shrimp takes the breading off thinking taste was in the breading... She sees the black vein line (intestines). So she continued to just pull all the shrimp out and eat the wrap. Soon disgusted she just put it aside. Our server was great. She apologized and ended up taking it off the bill. And we were like they may not even know about it. If they're ordering it from a shady distributor how do they know.. so yeah you might want to follow up on that. Sad because we always have a good time when she visits and she loves the spinach artichoke dip

We went for breakfast on a Wednesday morning. There were only 2 2-tops in the place, we were one of them. The restaurant was absolutely freezing. The food came out cold. I asked for over easy eggs, they were over hard. My hashbrowns were not crisp at all, not even brown, and the country fried steak gravy was ice cold. I sent it back and they barely cooked the hashbrowns again and they nuked my country fried steak with the gravy on top and it turned the breading on the steak to straight hot mush. It was absolutely disgusting. I left hungry. The only saving grace was the server who went above and beyond to cover for a crap cook.
