A must stop icon for anyone traveling in Pa. There are very few diners around anymore, as most have disappeared. This historic diner, moved to its third location in over 70+ years is worth the visit, even if not hungry. This was originally a rail car converted to a diner, and then built around, to where it no longer looks like the rail car from the outside. Inside still has some touch and feel of the original car. The food is great and not expensive, and while the service may be a bit slow due to skeleton staff and the many patrons, the service is very friendly. The portions are large so make sure your eyes are not bigger than your stomach when ordering. If you find yourself driving by the place, and you have never been there, make an effort to stop in, even if not hungry, as you can enjoy the pie, deserts, coffee, etc. while appreciating the atmosphere. There is also some outside seating as well, but with the global warming, the AC...
Read moreMy friend and I are on a railfan trip through Pennsylvania and we are driving along and passed this diner which had a lot of cars in the parking lot (for 1:30 p.m. on a Monday in January) ..although we didn't need to eat, as soon as we passed this diner we suddenly felt this bmagnetic pull. We just had to go back. So we parked and went in, we had no idea this was actually in 1919 railroad mail car that had been decommissioned and purchased and brought to this location and converted into a diner.
The service was very friendly and quick, we had a traditional breakfast and a mushroom omelette, everything had amazing flavor and came out quickly. We were very happy. The only thing we weren't happy about was that we did not have room left in our appetite for any of their delicious looking desserts.
fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic price. Next time we are in Pennsylvania we...

Every employee was super personable and helpful. The dining space is clean and homey. Up front there's a long traditional counter- just like a diner should be!
Most of the food is home cooking at its best. There was nothing we got that I could critique.
However, there are two areas where Diner 22 fails. First, the restrooms have very thin walls. If I can clearly hear the men at the counter while I'm doing my business, I'm sure they could hear me doing said business. It was just awkward.
More importantly, though, is the fact that only some of the desserts are made in-house. There's nothing stating this on the long dessert menu, but our server was wise enough to let us know what was homemade. Diners just shouldn't serve desserts they haven't made :-( Be warned and ask for...
