👌🏽 Third time’s the charm — or at least the most dialed-in.

June 30, 2025 marked my third visit to Galloway Tavern, and this time, I called in a pickup order armed with a strategy straight from the comments section. Shoutout to Nikki for suggesting the Carolina Gold/Hot/Garlic combo with a well-done bake — that’s exactly what drove my order today.

But let’s rewind for context.

🔁 Visit #2 Recap: I thought I had it all figured out: six wings with hot garlic sauce (no special bake) and the GT Pizza. The toppings on that pizza were genuinely premium — you could see why people say this place is known for them. Generous sausage, fresh mushrooms, all the good stuff. But there was almost no sauce, which made me feel like I was on some strange diet I didn’t sign up for. I’d still give the pizza another shot with extra sauce, but as it was, that round was a no for me.

The wings, though? That’s when I knew hot garlic was my lane. Even though the cook wasn’t ideal — not the crisp I’d hoped for — the flavor was strong enough to keep me coming back. If that second visit had been my first impression, I probably wouldn’t have rushed to write all about it, but it was promising enough to keep exploring.

🗓️ Today’s Visit (#3): I finally tested the well-done bake with Nikki Stormont recommended mix. The Carolina Gold was sweet enough to have a loud personality — the kind that shows up uninvited and talks over everyone else at the table. I had to get a side of straight hot sauce to calm it down and bring some order to the conversation. The garlic was a little shy, but the wings were perfectly cooked this time, confirming for me that Galloway Tavern really is worth coming back to — especially when you figure out how to customize everything to your own taste.

⸻

🗒️ TL;DR: • Pizza toppings? Top-tier. • Pizza sauce? Order extra. • Wings? Hot garlic well-done bake is my go-to. • Bonus tip: Listen to the locals — they know what they’re talking about. • Service? Always friendly. • Vibe? Old-school tavern comfort.

Wings were very good. Got the garlic medium double baked and they were meaty, sauced well, and nicely cooked without being dried out. We were actually a bit perplexed as they did seemed fried, so that's a definite positive if they were truly baked. The menu wasn't huge, but good size for this place with wings, pizza, burgers, etc... Lots if apps to choose from too. We got jalepeno and cheddar bites that definitely seemed they were frozen and baked, but they were decent and onion rings that were the battered type, not crumb coated. The rings were also good.

Service was good. They had two bartenders also acting as waitresses and bussers. They were busy as the restaurant and bar both had all seats taken. Both were very nice and did check on us to make sure we were OK.

The atmosphere is a bar that serves food. It's not a fancy bar, but more like a local pub. Easy going atmosphere though. Probably not the place people take children very often we didn't see any and it was 5pm on a Saturday. If in the area, I'd definitely go back and...

** After ordering from this place for over two decades, I am moving on in search of quality and consistency. Since COVID, this place has routinely provided low quality food. I had a deluxe pizza that I discovered had no cheese by the time I got it home. Another time I ordered 3 subs that where never even put in the oven, even after waiting over an hour. And my last order of 2 subs, they used stale sub buns. The last order was also barely cooked, and the bread was stale, not burnt, but stale. I am sticking to franchise establishments only for now on. A lot of family-owned establishments have gone to sheet, even after raising their prices.

This is my regular place to order take-out food. I like the pizza and the subs. My only complaint is the inaccurate order times. On most occasions the order taker tells me 45 minutes. I get there in 35 minutes, only to discover the food has been sitting on the bar 15-20 minutes. Food is always good but...

My first time here. Delicious pizza and very fulfilling! I ordered a large Pepperoni, Mushroom, Sausage. It had fresh mushrooms, not canned. The crust was medium thinkness with crunchy edges, good flavor and texture was chewy and soft. The sauce was just right in my opinion, not too tangy and not too sweet. I also ordered the sauerkraut balls, Philly cheese steak sandwich, and garlic wings. This was my first time trying sauerkraut balls and they were really good. It came with a mustard sauce which was pretty good too. The wings were nice sized and the flavor was great. I prefer wimgs that are more crunchy, but for this style it was pretty good. The food was ready pretty fast on a Weds. night around 9:30 p.m. The Philly Cheesesteak was great too! It was meaty with fresh mushrooms diced bells and onions on a fresh bun with melty cheese. It came with a mayo paket too. The server was friendly and the price was good for everything that I got.

What a gem the Callaway Tavern is. Convenient location just around the corner from Mentel Memorial course, perfect spot for meeting up with golfers for post-round grub. Dark and old school atmosphere. Surprised the Callaway Tavern didn’t sport golf-themed decorations, but that’s neither here nor there. Service was on point, impressed by the staff’s attentiveness. Wings are the star of the show. At the price point of around $1 each, these MEATY wings can’t be beat. Breading is heavier than average, but chicken stays juicy. Variety of sauces to indulge in. Other reviews highlight the pizza which I’ll be back to try. Bad Callaway/Galloway jokes aside, this place rocks and you need to go.
