I had the opportunity to play RTJ Capitol Hill the other day and was lucky enough to get in a double round too. So let me start with the check in process.
Seamless and very professional. Drop your clubs and then drive to park. There is a cart shuttle to take you back to the clubhouse. This was a first for the RTJ courses I have played previously.
I got some breakfast before teeing off and had the classic. Very tasty and priced very reasonably too.
Warm up area was nice. Plenty of space and turf conditions were decent too.
The Senator - Links Style but not too penal if you keep it play. It you have an errant tee shot you can pay the price. 140 bunkers too. Some places in some pretty precarious places too. The only disappointing part was the green conditions but on the plus side with all the rain they had this was a 90 degree off cart path course, which will come into play for my review of the Judge. Saw the beverage cart 6 times and had the Marshall deliver a chilled towel too, this will come into play later.
Judge - very friendly starter but he told us there was a Marshall, which I was excited about because of my earlier experience however he never showed once. Very disappointed!! Although 90 degrees on the Senator not so for the Judge this making it a very long and painfully slow second 18. I forgot to mention how hot and humid it was so I was expecting to see the beverage cart like we did on the Senator; however I had to call the clubhouse 3 times before seeing her and to say she was less than pleasant would be a massive understatement!! :-( Then everyone of the water cans were bone dry.
This is why I gave the course a 3- star rating. Very disappointed for the caliber and quality I was expecting to experience for a RTJ bucket list course. I hope your experience is better than mine after driving 4 hours this experience left a sour taste...
Read moreThree day play package at this venue. Played The Judge day one, Senator on day two, and the Legislator on day three. First day was halted for lightning delays twice. Barely got 7 holes in over a five hour span. Second day, cart path only, great weather, but course was soaked from previous days rain. Third day, again on cart path only, course still soaked and the greens on Legislator are virtually un-puttable because of invasive poa annua starters everywhere. Greens had not been cut for a couple days and those poa starters can kick a putt several inches off line when the ball slows. I would love to play these courses again, but not at their prices for substandard playing conditions. Group in front on day three was consistently behind by a hole or better all day. It backed up the...
Read morePlay here all the time. Great place to play and an excellent value for frequent golfers. Apparently a great deal or out-of-towners too should nice we get a lot of package groups from all over. Most complainers are from people who don’t play at a high quality course like the three here at RTJ. Of course they are not going let you play on frosty greens or drive carts on soft fairways after rainy days. It would kill the greens and ruin the fairways. I do wish the morons who throw their beverage cans into the natural areas and drop cigarette butts on the greens and tee boxes would find somewhere else to play. Also the people who don’t...
