Since Dam Fish shack keeps deleting my comments and questions on their page I figured Iâd write a review so they canât delete it. The hot ticket item on their menu is the âAlaskan Walleyeâ, however, there are no âwalleyeâ in Alaska meaning this is the Dam Fish Shackâs attempt at deceptive marketing. Before deleting my comments and questions they admitted that the âtype of Walleye they serve is the Alaskan Walleye pollockâ. The Alaskan Walleye pollock is in fact not a âtype of Walleyeâ, itâs cod, a bottom feeder and much more comparable to a bullhead than a Walleye. This is the same type of fish used in the McDonaldâs Fish Filet sandwich and any other fish item at a fast food restaurant because itâs dirt cheap compared to the Walleye that we South Dakota natives have come to know so well and adore. Iâm all for small business, especially local businesses in or near my hometown of Yankton, however when a company is knowingly marketing a menu item strictly for margins and to turn a profit, calling it one thing, yet serving their customers another, thatâs a problem in my book. Last summer I took my family out to the Dam Fish shack and ordered their âAlaskan Walleyeâ and it was pretty clear what was going on by the quality of what ended up on my plate. Sadly, I paid for 4 full meals, yet after standing in line for nearly an hour to get our food, I noticed we were missing our sides for all meals. When I asked a lady working why we got no sides yet paid full price for the meals she said they âran outâ. I asked if I could get some money back or at least a substitution for the missing sides and she simply said no. So not only does this business use deceptive marketing tactics to make a buck and delete their customerâs questions and comments on Facebook about what theyâre actually serving, they also donât care about them once theyâve got their money in their pocket. This is not the type of place I will be voting for with my dollars in the future. (Please note: I was blocked from this establishments Facebook page for posting...
Read moreThe dam shack is 1 of the coolest places to eat in the Yankton area. Laid back out of the way place to grub. Hush puppies are plentiful and delicious. All kinds of different seafood cooked to order. Carp is usually sold out. Now I know why I never had carp but it really good. We should try to to eat a evasive species. Ok tried the fish shack again on July 8th 1st off I had the fish taco what a joke more salsa than fish which the salsa sucked the onion was cut bigger than the tomatoes learn some knife skills didn't want fries just slaw it was the smallest amount I have ever seen. Also you can't get hush puppies anymore unless you buy a 7 dollar side dish don't come with the meal anymore for 9 dollars not worth it by the way the taco she'll was burned and unedible what a mess. They had a good thing going there but just like most things in this world greed...
Read moreSUPER cute atmosphere! I love how they call your name over the intercom and say "your dam food is ready" and then when you pick it up they say "enjoy your dam food." (I get a kick out of the little things.) Food was good and there was a nice selection, including many appetizer choices. The décor was super cute and bar area was fun. They have lots of umbrellas to stay out of the sun. Adult bean bag/ corn hole game and even a child size one. Can also play ring toss. Cozy little sitting areas, public restrooms and a little store/ shop. This place was WAY bigger and nicer than I expected for a food truck. It was much more like an outdoor restaurant. They do have indoor seating too if you prefer that. Most meals were around $16.50. I'll definitely be going again and telling others to check it out...
