Maybe it was an off day for them considering the other reviews, but my experience at this place was terrible. We arrived at Marbull's after finding our two other dinner choices were closed on Mondays. We say the good reviews and figured we would give this place a shot.
We walk in to a packed restaurant with a "please seat yourself" sign and nobody around. We peek around the corner...no clean tables so we plop down at the cleaner of the two free tables and wait. We wait for a few minutes and watch as a waitress rushes around nearly toppling over some elderly customers not once but twice...and then consult coming over to us. The places was indeed packed...but it is a small place. Packed meant maybe 15 tables. She sprays some blue liquid on the table (and subsequently my girlfriend), wipes the table, and leaves. Okay. A few minutes later, she comes back and throws menus down on the table. She then asks what we are drinking. Since we were trying to go to both Hollywood Gardens and Backdoor Tavern originally, I was in the mood for some good beer. I asked if they had a draft list. "Nope!" Okay....uh.....what do you have...? "Bud miller Coors...summer shandy." So I get water and look at the menu. The food was all very well priced but was also all very basic. Their specialties apparently "fries...plus something on top." Waitress rushes back and drops some place mats and silverware in front of us. She still hasn't even made eye contact with us. Some locals walk by and light up when they see her, have a quick chat. We order our food, she writes it down, takes the menus, leaves without saying anything, and literally throws the menus in some podium right behind our booth. I reluctantly decide to venture to the bathroom...it was about what I had expected based on the experience so far. I've used far worse. Income back and our food arrives. Again, at this point it was pretty much what I expected. My girlfriend's salad was mostly fries. I got fries on the side of my wrap and went to squirt some ketchup there for them. If this doesn't get you then I really don't know what will.....the ketchup was NOT Heinz. I have lived in Pittsburgh my whole life and I know Heinz. This was not Heinz. Just a cherry on top of the adventure.
It seems like this place is great for extreme locals....but "Restaurant and Tavern" means something to me. This place is not in the same league as Backdoor at all.
Noq you have to understand, I am not usually one to give a review like this so please don't take my words lightly. Had the service been even acceptable, I wouldn't have been so disappointed. If you choose to come here, just know...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat restaurant with awesome food. I used to come to their restaurant every week when I lived right up the hill from them years ago and I would have their grilled Cajun chicken salad bowl with fries and cheese. It was SO good! Then I tried their Cajun dry rub wings and I almost melted they were so good. They gave us alot of resistance for taking food to go that night, but I'm glad they relented because I've never had better wing seasoning! It's all about supporting local businesses nowadays and this restaurant has always been among my favorites in the...
