We recently hosted a gathering at Sprouts Inn in Quincy, IL, reserving their banquet hall for a group of 40 people. While the food and service were satisfactory, the overall experience was marred by poor management and unexpected pricing discrepancies.
Upon departure, we were handed a bill that differed significantly from what we had agreed upon during the reservation process. We were under the impression that we had secured the banquet hall and food at a rate of $12.99 per person, totaling $519.60 before tax. To our dismay, the bill presented was calculated at $18.00 per head, amounting to $720 before tax.
When we brought this to the attention of the staff, we were met with dismissive and unhelpful responses from the manager. The manager insisted that they would never have quoted such a rate. Excuses ranged from blaming website errors to our own technology issues, leaving us frustrated and without a resolution.
Despite offering to compromise and meet halfway at $14 or $16 per head, we were met with a stubborn refusal and a lack of willingness to rectify the situation. The owner, whom we were told was handling the matter, simply stated, "You aren't getting a discount no matter what."
Upon further investigation, we discovered that the Sprouts Inn website displayed conflicting banquet prices, ranging from $16 to as low as $12.99 per head. This inconsistency, coupled with the uncooperative attitude of the management, led us to question the integrity of their pricing and overall business practices.
The refusal to address the pricing issue and the lack of transparency regarding menu prices is deeply concerning. It is disheartening to see a business prioritize their profits over customer satisfaction and fairness.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend Sprouts Inn for any catering, banquet, or food-related needs. The management's handling of our situation, coupled with misleading pricing on their website, has left a lasting negative impression. I feel compelled to share this experience and have reported the false advertising to the Better Business Bureau to ensure that others are aware of the potential issues they may encounter. Save yourself the time, money, and effort – look elsewhere for your dining and...
Read moreThis place has a diverse menu, so there's something for everyone. It tends to appeal to the early bird crowd. I think that's because of the affordable pricing and some homegrown, homemade food options such as turkey with stuffing and mashed potatoes with gravy, or roast beef with potatoes and gravy, as well as fresh homemade soups every day. But they also make great cocktails and have a decent selection of beers available as well as a variety of fresh homemade pies and foods that will appeal to people of all ages, including some vegetarian options! I'm a fan of the shrimp dinner that comes with three shrimp selections. My favorite appetizer is the fried cheese cubes with ranch dressing for dipping. We never leave this place hungry. In fact, we almost always have to pack a small box with our leftovers because portion sizes are generous. You definitely get your money's worth when you visit. I've always had good experiences with the waitresses who are attentive and seem to know what they're doing and want to make sure that their customers are happy. The time between ordering and receiving your food is average and acceptable. I don't feel like we have to wait too long at all. And if you order a soup or salad, that comes out almost immediately for you to enjoy while you're waiting for the rest of the dish to come. The place feels a little outdated. They should remove the carpet because carpet in restaurants is gross and dirty. But they are always packed full, so people don't seem to mind that it's got a little bit of an old...
Read moreAbsolutely one of the worst dining experiences ever!! We decided to drop in for prime rib dinner..bad decision. First off the table and seats were dirty with food crumbs, my long island ice tea wasnt at all on par. Then comes our salads..the most pitiful excuse for a salad that I've ever seen. Basically consisted of 95% chopped lettuce, thin slice of egg white and thinner slice of cucumber and a very small wedge of tomato..we had to ask for eating utensils after 10mins of staring at our pitiful salads..unbelievable! Out comes the main course.. stepsons steak was supposed to be well cooked but was bloody rare..they had to take it back to finish cooking it. Daughters baked potato came out fully loaded when she ordered only butter/bacon. Btw all the baked potatoes tasted like they microwaved them several times. The other steak was tough as leather and full of gristle. We had to ask twice for A1 steaksauce..they brought us an empty bottle the first time. The prime rib I had was cold and rubbery..having to ask for the horseradish that was supposed to come with it, it finally came in a plastic cup and frozen! What terrible experience. Very disappointing. However our waitress was a sweetheart, you could tell she genuinely felt bad for us having apologized several times, letting us know they recently had new cooks and a new bartender and offered to take the one steak off the bill, even having the steak knocked off our bill was still $78. We would have gladly picked fast food over this meal. We will not...
