Quick service from a friendly crew. More of a sit down restaurant than you'd expect pulling up, but also a convience store if you're just stopping for a quick bite. Excellent price and options, solid burgers, tasty sides. Definitely a great stop on your way to or from an adventure, check it out!
Coming back to Oregon after a business trip, we cut through Kelso to take the Lewis & Clark Bridge and knock Rainer off of the Great Oregon Burger Bucket List. There were a few options of towns to go to, but Rainer and the Deli Store caught our eye.
The Deli Store boasts "world famous burgers" and they deliver a tasty, memorable cheeseburger. We went with bacon cheeseburgers, fries, and onion rings. The top two standouts are the sauces and the grill seasoning. It's been a while since we've come across this expertly maintained of a grill which left a tasty char and sealed in the juices. A general increase in the quality of ingredients is all this offering needs to make this a top 10 Oregon burger, but phenomenal for a convenience store burger. It was a bit greasy on the bun, so eat it quick!
The fry sauce is wonderful, homemade and appears to be a blend of ketchup and tartar sauce. It doubles as their burger sauce. The veggies are about what you'd expect from a small shop but were fairly good quality and added to an overall delicious burger.
Their sides are where they really shine. Some of the best crinkle cut fries I've had since the old Lebanon Hasty Freeze shut down. Great onion rings, the perfect ratio of batter to onion and fried just right.
Rainer is a cool little town too. A lot of history here, with the old river economy and the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant. Maybe a town in need of some TLC in parts, but it is quaint with a costal vibe and one heck of a hidden gem in the Deli Store.
If you are in the area and need a bite, make sure you find your way to the Deli Store for a delicious, quick, and easy on the wallet meal, from this excellent burger stand disguised as a convience...
Read moreWow, this place really surprised me! Let's start with the hamburger. While the patties initially looked like they might have come from the freezer aisle, appearances can be deceiving. These things practically melted in my mouth â in a good way! They fell apart easily, showcasing a surprisingly juicy and flavorful interior. And the size? Absolutely monstrous. It's a burger that demands respect.
The chicken Malibu burger was equally impressive for the price. A four-ounce, full chicken breast â thatâs substantial! Again, excellent value.
The fries were a revelation. Perfectly crispy, with a seasoning that elevates them far beyond your average gas station fare. In fact, the entire burger experience was a cut above the rest. I'm not kidding; some high-end, expensive restaurants could learn a thing or two from this unexpected gem. The warmth of the burger was also notable - a huge plus when compared to other places where lukewarm is the standard. This burger was hot, tasty, and worth the money. It truly demonstrates that excellent food doesnât always have to come with an exorbitant price tag. This gas station deserves significant praise for delivering a surprisingly delicious and generous burger meal that blows away the competition...
