Greeted promptly, been wanting to eat at the Wild Onion for many years, really disappointed for my first and last visit there, I ordered tea and my friend ordered some type of cola, ordered onion rings for an appetizer, $5.99 received two small ketchup cups for dipping, my choice, after almost finishing the onion rings, stopped and had to wait a while to order the dinner, got down to almost running out of tea had to set glass at the edge of the table to get attention for a refill, servers going by and not even looking to help refill, finally got to order dinner and had to wait an extremely long time to be served my food, I didn't time it but was over a 30 wait, ...let me mention this, the silverware was brought out in a glass jar, taking out the knife it had a piece of greenery stuck to it and asked for new silverware and got an attitude a different server brought the new silverware, sanitation grade 93, a low A,,,, finally receiving food was ignored the whole time, ran out of tea once again, asked about desert and got another attitude I told my friend, let's go, got up and went to the register and asked how it was I explained a few issues as the desserts were coming out and told her to forget it, bill was just over $41 left the tip at about .50¢, since it was my birthday had planned to leave a $20 tip...if the manager/owner response to this no worries, I would never go back even if the next meal was free...P....
Read moreLet me set the tone regarding the location of this restaurant. It's in a VERY small, but humble town. I spent most of my life in this town and my review is disappointing but not surprising. The restaurant is always packed and I've always heard good things about the food, but tonight confirmed that the only reason we have wendys, hardees, bojangles, McDonald's etc. is because that just what most people in our hometown know and like. The Wild Onion falls right in line with the fast food culture of the town. Almost everything is fried, I suspect comes from a can or box, and is likely frozen. It felt like it had no heart. The atmosphere is almost like someone goes to yard sales and just buys anything country themed and finds a place in the restaurant for it. There's far too much clutter. The idea is cute, but the execution is anything but that. I couldn't finish my food because it was so unappetizing. I love some good country food, but this is just the worst meal I've had in a long while. I know this review is harsh, but their menu says "if somethings wrong, tell us and we'll make it right". This is someone telling you. I'd rather pay $10-$15 MORE a meal to get fresh ingredients that cook a meal made with passion and love. The service was exactly what I expected. They were kind, humble, respectable...
Read moreMy wife and I visited The Wild Onion on Saturday evening. We were there when they opened at 5 PM. There were several people already waiting for them to open.
I admit that I have been by this place many times and hadn't paid much attention to it because it never seemed to be open when I was there. It turns out the are only open a few days each week and open at 5 PM.
The restaurant is a quaint little place with a lot of character. The first thing I noticed was how clean it was. Then, I could smell the good food that was cooking. This is a family style restaurant. If you're not familiar with that, it means that they serve the sides in bowls for the entire table with unlimited refills. Their menu changes depending on what fresh food they have available. All of the sides come with every entree. If you order a vegetable plate, all the sides are included.
I had a steak. It was very good. My wife had the vegetable plate which included squash, black-eyed peas, cucumbers, and hush puppies (they call them something else that I can't remember now). We finished the meal off with dessert, which is also included with each meal. Everything (includind the desserts) are homemade and delicious.
The service was outstanding as well. I think we have a new place that will be added to...
