We stopped by after a fun, long day at Indiana Beach and decided to try this place for the first time. At first, the waitress was very sweet and welcoming. However, things quickly changed once we started receiving our food.

My daughter ordered a root beer, but was given a lemonade. No big deal, we didn’t make a fuss over that. Then my husband ordered a plain tenderloin sandwich. He confirmed with the waitress what typically comes on it and clearly asked for it to be served plain. She repeated it back…“So, nothing on it, right?” and he said “Right.”

When the food arrived, the sandwich was fully loaded with lettuce, tomato, and pickles. My husband has a severe allergy to anything that’s been pickled, even if the pickles are removed. Just the residue is enough to cause a reaction. We politely let the waitress know and asked to have it taken off the bill.

While she was by the kitchen window, we overheard her and the cook discussing how she had written the order down incorrectly, and the cook was explaining how to properly enter a plain order. A few minutes later she returned with another sandwich. It came out very quickly, so we were already suspicious and sure enough, they had just removed the toppings. The pickle juice had still soaked into the sandwich.

My husband reiterated the allergy and said he couldn't eat it and again requested it be taken off the bill. At that point, the waitress became upset and said, “It’s not my fault, it’s the cook’s... there’s no more pickles on it.” The lack of understanding and concern for a food allergy was incredibly disappointing…not to mention dangerous.

To top it off, my daughter never received her fries, though we were still charged for them.

Unfortunately, this first visit will also be our last. The dismissive attitude toward a serious allergy was unacceptable, and it left us deeply concerned about the overall food safety awareness at...

I was traveling back home to Indianapolis from Monticello and stopped for lunch at "Mom's Country Kitchen" (aka "USA Family Restaurant") in Reynolds IN (1 block east of the intersection of IN-43 & US-421). I know all of us use the euphemism "Mom & Pop" place to denote any locally owned, non-chain, establishment, but this place if far more than that. After I complied with the "Please Seat Yourself" sign, I was greeted by a delightful young woman. When I asked how she was, she said "fabulous"! I exclaimed that between us we were "fabulous squared". I had a simple fish sandwich and fries, both of which were very good. The portions were so generous that I had to ask for a "to-go" box so I could take half of it home. From the signs, it appears that they are more famous if their "Breakfast All Day", and their menu certainly offers a large number of choices. It does not appear that they have a website, but (I think) they have a Facebook page. I highly recommend this place. With the multitude of chain fast food places, "Mom's Country Kitchen" offers friendlier service, more choices, better food, larger portions at a price comparable to all the other (what my father used to call) "Burger Biggie, your hamburger dream come true" places. I am hoping that sometime soon, I can come up with an excuse to make the 1½ hour drive north of Indianapolis, so I can stop in again. Next time I am...

We stopped by for the first time on our way to Indiana Beach. We were a little apprehensive at first but once the food came we were like kids in a candy shop. My mom ordered Sid’s special and said it was the BEST burger she’s ever had. My son and I ordered breakfast and were more than pleased, he kept telling the waitress how yummy everything was. None of us could stop eating even after we were full, we will definitely stop here our next trip. Hidden gem for sure. Christie was our server and did a lovely job for how busy it was. She was a little frazzled when we first got there but having been a server before I understand how it can be. By the time we got our food she was attentive making sure we had all we needed and that everything was correct and even had some chit chat near the end of our meal.

The water is well water so the bathroom smells from it and the soda is also off. My son and I got sweet tea and had no problems with taste. They do have bottled water available. That’s the only complaint I really have but there’s nothing they can do about the water so just keep that in mind when...

So we visited Moms country Kitchen on Sunday, around noon-ish. I don’t know how busy it normally is on a Sunday but there were only a few tables available. Our server was Kevin, he made it know it was his first day working there, it did take a little time to get our order in and then get our food but it was no big deal, coffee was good while we waited. When we got our food the portions were massive!! I got the Kennedys outrageous Omlete and my wife got one of the skillets… don’t remember the name, I wanna say all American, but that’s probably wrong. Food was great flavor was amazing it was hot, very good pancakes. Kevin was very polite and apologized numerous times, it wasn’t necessary, for us anyway we’ve been servers before we know how it goes, the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly.

The service was excellent and the food was very delicious. They definitely do not want to to go home hungry, here. The serving sizes are enough for two solid meals for a hungry working man, for sure! The chicken parmesan was yummy and the salad was a great balance of fresh goodies, with just enough lettuce. I want to note that I'm usually pretty hard on restaurants that are mediocre or so so, which there are plenty of those, so I really appreciate the ones that shine above the others. Good quality ingredients, tasty food, kind and helpful staff with a genuine small town, comfortable atmosphere. I recommend. If I'm ever passing through there again, hungry, I'm going to make it a point to revisit. Thanks!
