I've been coming to this place twice per month for about two years. It coincides with a standing work assignment downriver, and it is one of the best parts of that particular Wednesday drill. Perch is served everyday.
My spouse and I popped in one Fall on a weekend night for a brief layover, and wherever perch is served, I'm eating it, regardless of whether I'm hungry. The serving was flawless, and came with creatively done fries and solid slaw. It has never disappointed.
Just yesterday, for the first time ever, they were out of perch. I opted for Codfish Florentine and it's been the happiest accident in recent memory. The fish was delicate, tender, fresh, and lovingly prepared with light spinach wrapping and a lemon-cream sauce. The risotto was a perfect complement and you could just as easily expect the same quality and presentation from Muir's, let alone a friendly neighborhood joint.
This place is an absolute gem, and I'm grateful they are not numbered among other Covid casualties. The staff here, the familial atmosphere and the top-flight kitchen and chef make this tavern a hidden wonder-world. Highly recommended for any reason, anytime.
And thank you, Chef, for the best meal I've had in a...
Read moreHorrible customer service! tonight!! We have come here after golf many times over the last several years with our group. But tonight had a VERY bad visit! The last 3 of us out of 10 golfers/ customers to show up - with the staff/server knowing more people were on their way , they did not let the 3 of us order food when we got there! Had our group known that they were getting ready to stop taking food orders -someone could’ve ordered for us or we would have gone elsewhere!. The kicker was it was my friends birthday (which I told them) We couldn’t even eat with the rest of our group which some were just getting their food and some were still waiting on their orders. I feel our group should’ve been informed beforehand that they were closing the kitchen early. Plus we were told they ran out of most of their food.?!? Very, very disappointing!! Especially since I had just been in there on Friday and talked to Christian (one of the workers) and told him our group was coming there Tuesday after golf. He never told me their kitchen closes early now! Sadly I guess they don’t need...
Read moreThis place is a big surprise. Looks like a dumpy neighborhood bar from the outside. Stuck in a small factory village but the factory is long gone. Not much parking available so we expected it to be completely full.
Inside: more room than expected. Nicer than expected. Awesome food (bar food - burgers and fish and enchaldas). This was the biggest surprise. Simply did not expect food this good here. Good beer choices too. A variety of local (Michigan) craft beers on tap. The waitress was a little grumpy, but everyone has a bad day. Service was still very good, but no service with a smile. It was very busy though so she did not have a lot of time to be friendly.
Burgers were outstanding and Enchaladas were huge and delicious. Great fries too. Patrons were just normal people having a nice...
