So my boyfriend and I go to the Waffle House in Roanoke last night. We have been eating pretty healthy and wanted a really good cheat meal so we picked Waffle House. We were pretty stoked because it's been a while since we had Waffle House. We placed our orders and waited in excitement. As the guy put in my raisin bread my belly begin to growl because of the sweet smell that filled the room. We both order the All-star special. Once we get our food first thing I eat was the bread. I then start in with my cheese eggs and hash browns as I'm eating my hash browns and cheese eggs see a rat run across the floor. I was a little shocked as this took me by surprise. The rat runs back by. I point it out him and he sees it as well. He calls over the employee and let's him know that we seen a rat. By this time the rat ran back into the hole. The worker gets on the ground looks under the cabinet with his flash light from his cell phone and says "Damn, it's dirty under here." The other worker goes to the back and call the manager Sherry. He returns and tells us, Sherry told him that they are aware of the rat and pest control was just out there setting traps and she will call them back out. We tell the waiter that we no longer want our food. At this time he proceeded to write up a ticket. I was hesitant to pay at first but we paid. I didn't come to get a free meal but this filthy establishment that has rodents running around where they cook and store food made me lose my appetite. I didn't want to cause a scene (6'4 400 pound black man in a small town wasnt a good look) so we pay the ticket and leave. I called Sherry today to tell her what had taken place and you would have thought the first thing would have been to apologize but it wasn't. In the whole 8 min conversation she didn't apologize once. She first told me that she could give me a free meal. Now why would I want to come back. After I said that she then suggested a refund. You would think an apology and a refund would be a no brainer but I guess in this case it wasn't. Just truly disappointed in the service I experienced with this Waffle House. I know u might say well it's the Waffle House I know what I was getting into but I didn't expect to get a rodent show with my...
Read moreI have frequented this Waffle House for two years and it's had its challenges to say in the least. They've brought in District Managers and other experienced team members to provide additional support and I've been so proud of how they recognized their opportunities and acted on it. However, yesterday was a complete disaster!
They have yet again a whole new crew but I can say it's an extreme staffing challenge all over the globe I feel. I walked in and there were two tables not cleaned and people waiting to be seated. After about 15 minutes, I asked a lady if she could clean both tables, she only cleaned one and said that they other one would be a minute before it would be cleaned. That was quite puzzling, so I said okay. A few minutes later a guy and his young son walked in, they stood and waited for about 30 minutes without any acknowledgement from anyone, and then he walked out. They all proceeded to speak amongst themselves and act shocked that he left. As the guy and his son departed, I saw a waitress grab a fork by the teeth with her bare fingers (in the clean bin) and pass to a customer. Yuck!
The service was subpar and not what I ordered. To top it off with a cherry, they had this young white girl that checked me out with about 30 piercings in her face alone. I was taken aback! I'm not exaggerating and it was beyond disgusting!!! She looked like Hellraiser. I'm not sure if Waffle House has hit an all time low in finding decent presentable team members or she just violated dress code but that is not it.
I'm not sure what the solution is but this needs to be reevaluated. Maybe close for a week or two, hire some good talent, dive deep into training effective and efficient team members who are presentable professionals, increase hourly pay, and start fresh. And this could have already been executed multiple times. I know the caliber of good workers are slim to none in this world and who actually follow policy...
Read moreWaited nearly an hour for a table. Was finally seated at a filthy, sticky table. I asked the hostess if the table could be wiped off and she handed me a damp, dirty towel for which I cleaned the table myself. Waitress stopped at the table long enough to tell us she would be right back to take our order. 25 minutes passed and we still had not been offered drinks. We flagged down another waitress at the counter only to be told "they had been busy and they would get to us when they could." We waited another 15 minutes and continued to watch others that had been seated after us be served. Approximately 2 hours after entering the restaurant, receiving no service, spoken to rudely, watching the employees stand around and talk and do their hair at the counter, watch a waitress clean under her fingernails with a fork at the counter, watch the cook constantly rub their face and nose while cooking, and subject our 3 yr old grandson to every curse word and vulgar and humiliating word in the urban dictionary, we walked out. I understand that Waffle House comes with a certain reputation for poor quality of food and service and is certainly proud of its ghetto reputation but management needs to draw the line somewhere. I'm sure the employement process is relatively smooth with little or no previous experience or education required but this particular Waffle House has...
