I was extremely excited to try out this place that's about 5 minutes from my new house. It pains me to write this review because I almost never give negative ones but the service I got at this place as first time customer was just inexcusable. The staff must have been extremely upset about something (no idea what) because the atmosphere was tense and awkward from my first interaction with the bartender. I ordered a bottled beer and she slammed the cup down in front of me, which I didnt think any of (typically they offer to pour but I have no issue pouring my own) but it just kept getting worse. The bartender "left" and another woman got us refills. My wife ordered a dirty martini again. The 2nd bartender made her a new one with literally 50% of the liquid as the first bartender made, 50% less alcohol AND olive juice. My wife wanted to say something but I stopped her, because I could tell something that wasn't our fault was going on. After this our wings finally came out (Teriyaki) and I was astonished that 4 of the wings were just straight up missing 50% of the meat. I do not care one bit if you get a weird wing or two...happens all the time...but 1/3rd of the wings should not be missing 50% of the meat off them, that's just wild that someone looked at it said "That's okay". To top that off, they just tasted awful, which again, is not something I'd ever complain about but when we didnt even eat 2 of the wings the original bartender we had at first came back and just slammed the check down, didnt even ask us a single question about how it was or if we were satisfied. I really had to hold myself back from going off at that point because its such a small place and I really didn't want to ruin anyone's time who might be having even a shred of fun in that place.
Needless to say I wont ever be going back here again. I don't want to be dramatic and say it "ruined" my evening because it didn't, but this experience is so far out of the norm for what I experience at local eateries all around, I just couldn't not say something about it. This happened on Friday Sept 27th so I waited a few days to write this with...
Read moreWe visited during the week for an intimate birthday celebration. There were just a few other couples in the dining area that evening, so it was nice, not noisy. The dining area is very nicely decorated. The ceiling is vaulted and the space feels very open. Windows line the 3 outer walls, and the wooded area outside would have made a lovely scenic view except when late autumn sunsets are so early! Between the high ceiling, windows, and lighter mid-week clientele, however, it was a little chilly. My very good glass of Riesling helped ;) and I usually bring a light outer layer for these possibilities.
The menu is very traditional (meat, seafood and pasta dishes with starch and vegetable sides). I ordered their chicken specialty; my companion ordered salmon. Both were very good, no complaints. The salads were fresh and tasty, a nice size and a good mix of lettuce & vegetables. The pacing was right and the entrees & sides were served hot.
Our server was personable and attentive. She knew the menu well and made good suggestions. Her voice carried quite well and would have been an advantage on a crowded Saturday night. I'm sure it's hard to adjust when there's only a few people, but in a large room with sound reflective windows and hardwood floors it was hard not to clearly hear the detailed exchanges with other diners. Everyone was having an enjoyable experience, though, and it felt like a small party where we didn't know the other guests.
This is a nice place for a special occasion meal. If you like the bustle of a Friday or Saturday I can imagine this would be very suitable. We like cozy, quieter experiences when you can talk more with the servers, and so this occasion was perfect for us. I would return for another special occasion. I hope it's when daylight lingers and I get to...
Read moreUpon arrival we were informed that everything was "Made to Order"...we were looking forward to a wonderful Valentine's Day Dinner...instead, we were presented with a lobster Bisque that looked more like chicken broth with bits of crab floating in it (no cream-like bisque at all).
Undeterred we proceeded to order... I opted for the prime rib and my lady went for the crab cakes. after a few minutes I was informed that they were "out" of homefries and they suggested a baked potato instead...Hmmm..let's think about this... out of homefries...main ingredient? Potato... for a restaurant that made it a point of telling me everything was "made to order" I found it unacceptable that they would tell me they were out of Homefires and yet not out of potatoes...moving on... I requested Butter and bacon on my baked spud... it was delivered as dry as the Sahara...dissapointing to say the least.
Let's not forget my lady's crab cakes.... they were crab cakes in name only, consisting mainly of incredibly over-salted stuffing and a fair amount of crab shell bits. Neither of us finished our food, nor did we opt to take the leftovers home.
We held high hopes for Christine's because the restaurant's asthetic is lovely, however to say that the food was sub-par would be giving it way too much credit.. The prices were what you'd expect from a fine dining restaurant, the quality of food fell far short of that mark. I read another review that called this place a hidden gem... I suggest you let it stay hidden and...
