My husband and I were visiting from Los Angeles and joined my brother and sister-in-law at one of their favorite local spots — Harrington’s in McDonald, PA We’ve been here before and always loved the cozy, hidden-gem feel and great food. It’s the kind of small-town restaurant and bar you want to support.
Unfortunately, this visit was really disappointing. My sister-in-law ordered her usual chicken buffalo wrap with a large side of fries, which she loves and always gets. When the food came, the fries were totally different — thick, breaded fries instead of the classic thin shoestrings. She politely asked the kitchen help that delivered the food if they had changed the fries, and server said yes.
A few minutes later, we noticed another table being served the same shoestring fries my sister-in-law had wanted. My brother asked about it, and the waitress replied, “That’s what you got.” He ask again do the have shoestring fries and again she replied that’s what you got!! It was clear she was frazzled (her name was Shane), and while we felt bad for her, she never tried to make things right — and never even came back to check on our table. My brother eventually had to stand at the bar just to get refills for at least 5 minutes because she was nowhere to be found which was truly ridiculous.
We’ve always liked Harrington’s and my family has been loyal patrons for years, so it’s disappointing to see such poor service and lack of care. Hopefully management sees this as constructive feedback — people love this place for its small-town charm and consistency. A little more attention and effort could easily bring that magic back. Also, as we were leaving, she asked if we were running out when obviously the receipt says pay online which we did! And actually if I could take back the tip, I would after she accused us of walking out! I don’t understand her attitude. It...
Read moreSo I’m so disappointed that I’m having to give this negative review because the food is good but the service… WHAT SERVICE?!? If your lucky enough to even be acknowledged by someone or seated the wings are awesome but on our third attempt to eat in an empty dining room we were ignored by the bartender for 10 minutes before deciding to go somewhere else! I understand we aren’t “regulars” but how is one supposed to become a regular if I’m not even acknowledged as a first time customer! So you lost what would of been life time regulars!
!!!UPDATE!!!! So as any business should stand behind their employees doesn’t mean you should respond so poorly to a negative review instead of trying to rectify the issue. You see this was the second trip to your establishment. First time after being seated in the dining room and we weren’t approached again for over 30 minutes for our waitress to tell us if we ever wanted to be served we should go to the bar! Which we did then we were ignored and yes ignored as our food sat in the window for over 10 minutes. This was our second attempt thinking first one was a fluke everyone has a bad day , I work in the industry! But after walking in to an empty dining room and 5 people at your bar for us to stand at the door to be seated making polite eye contact with your bartender smiling to be ignored and nothing to be said at all, not hello, one moment, or anything, for us to leave and leave this review! Your food is AWESOME but your service and quite frankly your...
Read moreNo lighted signage outside and it was dark and dreary. The GPS said we were there. No one greeted us upon entry until we walked back and forth several times from the bar to the dining room. The help seemed to be hiding, almost hoping we'd leave. We should have Food was only average. Not busy on a rainy Saturday night. Our waitress also tended the bar, which was in a separate room some distance from the dining area. She knew nothing about the menu claiming she worked only every other Saturday, which is really not an acceptable excuse. It was her job to know and her employer's to make sure that she did. Took at least 20 minutes for our wings to show up and they were not piping hot...big surprise. She was portly and moved slowly. She said there was no beer list and she had to go back to the bar - which she was tending, remember - to be able to find the names of the four beers on draft. We heard her make the "ever other Saturday night" excuse to other diners. The place was about 60% empty and the only thing in town was a hockey game. Where was everyone? Perhaps Harrington's has been resting on its laurels too long and the locals all know this. (My wife and I traveled 25 miles to sample this joint.) What a...
