This place has really great burgers, fries, onion rings. Friendly service. It is somewhat pricey--like everywhere in this part of Colorado--and somewhat slow, but everything is clearly fresh and made to order. Also, the double cheeseburger needs to be ordered since the the single would be too small for most bigger appetites. We did not get the ice cream, but it appeared popular and looked good. You can eat out on the picnic tables by the rushing creek.
Update, 6.8.23: Burgers are still good, but even more expensive. $9 for a smallish single cheeseburger, $12 for a double cheeseburger by itself, extra for fries, drinks. One would think you could get some kind of combo meal for $12. The burgers and seasoned waffle fries are excellent, but it was nearly $60 for our family of 4 to eat, and we didn't buy drinks. Also, even though there weren't a lot of people there when we were, it took quite awhile to get our food. Even for the mountains that seems like a lot for burgers, fries, and onion rings. Remember also it is CASH ONLY, so make sure you have a lot of it if you stop here. The ice cream is also good, but it is 8 dollars for what would be a medium size shake at most places. Taking off a star for the high prices and the slow service, although the...
Read moreThe burgers here are phenomenal! They're all cooked fresh to order, have tremendous flavor, and are massive.
It was so good, I came here for lunch both days I was in town! They have tons of sides, from waffle fries to onion rings which were both delicious as well. Keep in mind the sides are larger and can definitely be split between two people.
A cheeseburger is only $8.50 and well worth the price. There can be a line during lunch and it can take 15min to get your food, but it's worth the wait!
There really aren't too many spots like this left. My father remembers when they built the store in the early 90s and he used to hang out with the Ellison's, the family that owned this spot for decades.
All in all, definitely stop in for lunch, grab some burgers and ice cream, because it will def...
Read moreGet a great burger at a small, funky, wayside deli, grocery, and ice cream shop combo. Driving 6 hours to get to the high country makes for real hunger pains. Freeman's is a barn-like building with ample patio space to sit in the sun, enjoy the view, and dig into a fantastic green chile burger, fries, and milk shake. There are no pretensions there. The staff is older, as in gray hairs, and a kick in the pants to chat with. Order at the counter and await your meal in the funky interior space or amble outside. Make sure to check out the bathroom "wall paper" for a laugh. Pick up a few camping necessities and stretch your muscles for the ride...
