After a rare morning of my husband and myself getting time to try a new motorcycle loop to ride we found Rockwood bar and grill to rest and refuel before more discovering and adventuring. Friends had told us both that if we ever had the opportunity to stop that we must so we did! We were there around 1pm for a late lunch I ordered the poutine with bacon. In my opinion it was on the too salty side for my liking. The portion was quite generous as well as the perfect ratios of fries to toppings. My husband ordered a burger and fries and was completely satisfied I think we must have stopped on an above average busy day, as there was only one waitress. Once she acknowledged that we had been sitting at a table and appeared ready to order she approached us and informed us she was the only server working. The atmosphere is that of a small town spot that locals would likely routinely visit. I believe those establishments typically offer a more welcoming feel and small refined menu This in my book is a great thing. Food and service were at best average ( again one server overwhelmed isn’t likely a fair way to rate) the atmosphere was as expected We would stop again if in the area
I understand that if you're not "from here", you stick out and don't fit in. I understand that its winter and who wants to come to northern ME in January. What I don't understand is how when we walked into this place, having been highly recommended by others, no one said one word to us. We didn't know if we had to seat ourselves or not. There were several people there with what looked like staff t shirts on...all of them looked at us as we awkwardly pulled out 2 chairs and sat down at one of the all empty tables. We sat for close to 10 min. Nobody ever said 1 word. So, dreading the repeat awkwardness, we stood up and walked out. Again...nobody said anything. We wanted to visit Maine in the winter because we both love cold weather and don't get much of it in NC. Its understood that these are tiny towns with mostly local folks. It just would have been nice for someone to speak to us. Maybe even smile at us. All we wanted was...
Read moreWe were there June 26 2025 to celebrate my son Nick’s 21st birthday. My son has A-T (ataxia telangiectasia) and is in a wheel chair. This was a very monumental birthday for all of us! I called the day before and got the voice mail and left a message asking if there was anything special we could pay for to celebrate this occasion. The manager Briar called me back and said she would do what she can to recognize the occasion. Turns out, SHE went to the store and bought some decoration and confetti and had our table all done up. Additionally, she had a birthday card on the table that was signed by the Rockwood staff!!! It didn’t stop there, each employee including cooks, bartenders and wait staff all visited our table, one at a time, periodically throughout the evening to wish Nick a happy birthday! Kudos and huge shout out, to all who made this a memorable evening for us! And thank you from the bottom of our hearts!...
