This spot is a breath of fresh air for Devils Lake. The space strikes a balance between moody and cozy, with plant-lined walls that give it a relaxed feel. The coffee is solid, and the espresso holds its own. They're serving up Uncommon roastery out of Saugatuck. We tried the cinnamon roll, the Barnabrow, and the McBlackbird—all were homemade (fresh focaccia) and really enjoyable. The food was unique and seems to reflect the owners’ travels and personal tastes. Looking forward to coming back to try the gelato—and definitely an affogato too!

I don’t leave reviews… but had to leave one for Blackbird. We stopped on a whim while traveling and holy cow was it worth it!!! Everything is made in house down to the bread and syrups for the home made sodas (get the ginger!!!) I got the Cuban and a Salvatore for the road… and a monster double stuffed cookie and a latte (I may have overdid it). We will 10000% be back next time we’re in the area!!

PHENOMENAL. I’ve been dying for a really cool spot with amazing drinks and eats near the lake and this place delivers! It’s worth every penny. You will not be disappointed. I’ll go even further and say I would bet that you cannot find an item on the menu that you can make better. It’s truly a treat. Best cheesecake and cinnamon roll I have ever had in my life.

We stopped here for lunch and ordered chicken salad sandwiches and flavored lemonades. The sandwiches were excellent—some of the best chicken salad I've had at a restaurant. The chicken was a little chunky (I don't like it when it's minced to a paste) and had just enough dressing to hold it together instead of swimming in mayonnaise. The lemonades were also very good.

The only reason I'm giving four and not five stars is because they either need more details on their menu board and printed menus or they need to inform customers about upcharges. At the time we were there (it was early summer), nowhere was it indicated that there was an upcharge for the flavored lemonades or to add a slice of tomato to our sandwiches. The result was a bill $5 more than we were expecting. Neither of these extra charges were mentioned...

New management recently took over so I went in to see what had changed. I ordered a cortado which is actually equal parts espresso and steamed milk, as “cortado” literally means ‘to cut’ as in cut the espresso flavors with milk. The man behind the counter said, “that is just a latte with an extra shot”, which is not correct. I’ve been a barista for 6 years. Also the pricing, absolutely crazy to pay $10 for a small cortado made incorrectly. I guess if we are price gauging in order to make a profit that makes sense but it doesn’t help getting repeat customers. The breakfast sandwich was good. No complaints there. If you’re going to own a coffee shop, please know what the drinks actually are and how to make them properly....
