Stanley's On North Broad — Restaurant in Rome

Got a plate from here today and it was pretty good with hot sauce. Should've gotten dessert too. Idk why but I woke up craving ham n fried chicken. Wasn't really happy with the mac n cheese or greens. The greens were sweet, mac n cheese just wasn't what I expected. Either way the quality was great. I kinda had ham off a shoulder on my mind which it was, just my least favorite cut. Either way, it was a better choice than the downtown restaurant lottery. I've been wanting to try the ribs. Might try pork chops today. Just a friendly suggestion, brine your chicken in saltwater to taste overnight. Baked or fried. It's nice to have edible food without cooking for a change. Went again to try the ribs, they were edible but I'm kind of wondering what animal that they came from. The beans and cabbage were good but I didn't expect the rolls to be drop biscuits lol. Ribs were good, but would be better left in a crackpot overnight. Either way I'm still happy with the food even though I put the ribs in a pot with vinegar, bbq sauce, and course black pepper. A friend and I visited for the first time for dinner after a colleague recommended the food. The ladies at the counter were friendly. The food was subpar, and tasted like it had been under the heat lamp since lunch. They close at 6:00 pm, and we were there at 5:10. By 5:50, a man was standing at our table trying to clean as we were eating. He kept reminding us that they closed at 6, but we were fully aware of the time. I tried to get a refill of tea, and the man blocked me from walking toward the counter and told me they had dumped the tea for the day. He then took the remainder of our trays of food at 6:00 on the dot, and told us to leave. I'm not sure I've been anywhere that has treated me so poorly. I was wearing my company logo, and did not want to act according to my feelings because I did not want to poorly represent my place of work, but I was infuriated! Tried this restaurant for the first time, I called previously to find out the basic concept, which is a more personal cafeteria like process. I found both my conversation on the phone and my interaction with staff at the restaurant was exceptional. Very kind, patient and informative. The restaurant has 3 entrances but the food line is found in the center of this restaurant and the staff are most helpful with getting you the food you want, patient with questions. Now, the food. . .it tastes like you have come home to grandma's house. A good selection of vegetables, fried okra, mashed potatoes and white shoepeg corn were my choices with fried chicken. Veggies were very good but I could have eaten a plate of their corn, absolutely fabulous. Fried chicken was so good, juicy and minimal breading and not greasy at all.
