We called McWethys's about 2+ months in advance to inquire about a small room to hold a party of 16 to celebrate a milestone anniversary. They told us they had "a front nook" and we reserved that room. We asked for 5pm but were told to do 5:30 to ensure the party before us would be done. My husband and I even went in to dine and mentioned our upcoming reservation and we asked what "the front nook" was and they showed us. Looked perfect. A little nook off to the side where we could gather and hold conversation without the added noise of the dining room. Fast forward to reservation day and we are brought to the main dining room. I mentioned we have reservations in "the nook". The host says "Yea we wanted to put you there but we put you out here instead." I explained we specifically booked to have a more private space and that's the reason we were there. There was a party in the nook already. The host told us they would be leaving and they'd set us up in the nook. The party was showing no signs of leaving. 16 of us were left standing in the front carrying a cake, balloons, flowers, gifts, and small children while we were waiting for our reserved space. We saw the manager and staff talking and staring at us multiple times. No one bothered to come over or apologize. The hosts just staring at us. At the 30min mark we finally asked for the manager to express our disappointment. He said he was sorry but his tone of voice and lack of actions said otherwise. He said there's no time limit on the space. We asked why they make reservations for it. We explained how they told us come 530pm so it was available. It's not unheard of for a restaurant to put a time limit on a reserved room. Some restaurants even put time limits on regular tables. We booked this months ago. He claimed there was nothing in the notes about the reservation being in the nook. It was 40mins past our reservation by the time we were seated in our space. Our server was fantastic and attentive. We obviously know none of this was her fault. The manager NEVER ONCE stopped back to check on us, ask how everything was, offer us an appetizer or dessert to smooth things over (not that we were expecting it). It was the poorest customer service I've seen in a long time. Our party has decades worth of restaurant and restaurant management experience combined. My husband is a Senior Manager at a restaurant and he was utterly appalled by the lack of customer service by the manager. We even told him if he had came on his own in the beginning and apologized for the inconvenience that things would have went alot smoother. Genuine customer service goes a long way. Instead he just stood to the side staring at us displaced. Very disappointed in McWethys management. I don't recommend booking a reservation for a large special event because it's apparent they don't honor the...
Read moreThis restaurant is very inconsistent. I have been there 10 times. Each time I ordered the baked French onion soup. Each time it was different. On two occasions it was great. Last night we brought friends and 3 of us ordered the baked French onion soup. When it arrived there appeared to be no cheese on top, as we all put our spoon into the soup and tasted we nearly all at the same time spit it out as it was warm water with large onion slices and a piece of stale bread. We immediately called over the manager and suggested he taste the soup and check to see what happened.
The General Manager by the way is clueless in the restaurant business and has no idea how to operate a business of this nature. He did return to our table to inform us that he looked into it and they forgot to add something and did not follow the recipe. Really!
On two occasions I ordered muscles and they were the freshest I ever had. Last night they were terrible and discolored and definitely not fresh.
This restaurant did have potential ,and I did give it enough tries to work out their kinks as we started going there when it first opened. However, when you hire poorly, try to cut corners, hire people who are not experienced, and the owner is not present, you will not have success.
What really amazes me is the amount of money they put into building Mcwethy's and then they try to cut corners in running the restaurant. It seems to me like they cared more for the structure of the building then they did the overall meaning of producing good food with quality people to oversee the operation.
The people they hire to serve you arrive at your table with saying, "Hey guys what can I get you." When ladies are present this is not the proper greeting in a restaurant. This may work at McDonald's however when paying a good dollar for a meal, I feel there should be more class in serving. The server last night shared with us that there are many complaints daily at this restaurant and showed her frustration with stating, "I don't know what is going on but, I hope they figure it out."
I could go on with the defects in this restaurant however, the food quality is the main importance when in the restaurant business, and consistency needs to be top priority when running a restaurant. McWethy's Tavern has neither.
Last time for McWethy's, I would never return back to this restaurant! I refuse to give my hard working dollars to a place where there is no respect or care in the food or service they deliver.
My advice save your money and go elsewhere. I have had better meals...
Read moreWorst experience I have had in 3 years. Came here for a Father's Day dinner. I have a wife and 3 kids, and I care more for them being taken care of before me. First, it took 30 minutes easily for my wife and daughter to receive their diet cokes, for my son to get his root beer, and for my daughter to get her lemonade (a whole episode of Family Guy aired on their TV). I, however, received my wine promptly.
Three of us ordered steak, and the waitress did not ask either of my children nor I how we would like our bone-in ribeye and fillet mignons cooked. My son told her he wanted medium, which was done to his liking only because my wife helped with his order, but my daughter wanted medium-well as did I and we were not asked. My ribeye was medium-rare and her fillet mignon was medium. She did not come back to our table to ask us how any of our steaks were at any point, but when it came down to ask us if we wanted boxes or dessert, I finally had an opportunity to tell her it was undercooked and was too fatty. I ate a little less than half of my steak hoping it would get better but no luck. Her comment: "I wish you had told me sooner." I would have if she were present and knew how to take steak orders and check on them. End result, no attempt to make good on any part of the meal, just charged full price and no manager intervention at any point. I would have at least appreciated some attempt but there was none.
This was my first experience with them. Too bad, I heard good things about their food, and really wanted to go back for their Reuben, but they have given me no reason to be a...
