Living in a border town in the state of Texas and growing up on Mexican food, I thought I knew good Mexican food. Let me tell y'all that I was wrong. A 12-hour drive to a northern state gave me the most delicious and amazing taste of authentic Mexican food I had ever had in my life. You can tell every single dish is homemade. The breakfast was so amazing, we went back for lunch on a separate day of our trip.
My sister brought along her husky, so we sat outside and enjoyed the weather. We were given water for the dog who happily enjoyed some pets from the owner and a few strangers, lol. My boyfriend and I were able to have some great conversation with one of the owners (a married couple, both of whom work as cooks & waiters of the restaurant). Upon learning they'd be closed the following day (& last day of our vacation), I had to order a dish to-go for my breakfast the following day, lol. As strange as my request initially seemed to the owners, they still happily obliged packaging everything separately in order for me (i.e., my bf) to easily warm it and have it fresh the following morning.
I can't remember the last time I felt so happy to be eating "leftovers" the following day 🤣 Things I couldn't select in the listed dishes that were good: the menudo, the coffee, authentic & just-made aguas frescas, homemade flour tortillas. The tripitas were the cleanest tripitas I had ever seen in my life.
Most delicious home cooked Mexican cuisine you can find in New Mexico. You can't go wrong! Approved by a foodie, a picky little sister, and a picky foodie for a bf 😂❤️
PSA: for the past negative reviews posted here, the current owners are new and have barely been there full-time a little over 6 months if I recall correctly. Their experiences may be valid, but rest assured that the restaurant has a new look along with new management 😉 I regret not taking photos to show updates. But another recent review showed the bright and colorful wall painted with a cactus. The exterior is white and no...

Read moreI first had these AMAZING tacos when I was staying a weekend in ruidoso a few months ago. I haven’t had tacos as good as these since 2016 when I was living abroad in Belize and that’s sad because this is New Mexico! I decided to drive an hour up the mountain tonight to try them again! And I took some to go! (The tripitas tacos are heavenly) it seems to be a family that runs it. I arrived about 15 before closing and they stayed open half hour past so my friend and I could eat. They are some of the nicest people in ruidoso! I love...
