It was restaurant week, knowing it was going to be busier than a usual Friday night I was curious to see how The Red Horsewould stand up to the test. Now when making a reservation they really should ask where you would prefer to be seated, whether it be by the bar, on a high top table or in the dining room. The reason I bring this up is they did make an attempt to seat us everywhere but where we wanted to sit. A for effort! While making the booking it asks, “ what’s the occasion?” It happened to be my fiancés birthday so I clicked it and wrote a special request. When we finally were seated after 42 min of waiting, with the worst dry mouth since not even a water was offered, it was crickets about the special occasion. Not a word was said. I saw that they were busy so I didn’t want to be that guy, but why ask if you’re not going to do anything about it. I have to say I was disappointed, yet still I kept a positive note and carried on. We sat at our table for almost an hr waiting on food. The popovers we ordered never arrived only find out the were never put in to the kitchen. When we asked they were brought out right before our dinner. Now I have to say the waitress wasn’t bad(mistakes happen) but from what I saw she was understaffed. So not entirely her fault for the mediocre service and again it was restaurant week but not sure if this counts as an excuse. There were a few other things I don’t feel are necessary to mention because when the food finally did come out it was quite delicious, but I have to mention I bought an $12 Argentinian rib eye and pan seared the steak. I have to say I would much rather have had that vs the $70 ribeye. After being there for over almost 3 hrs for two people that weren’t really drinking we asked for our desserts to go. Now I couldn’t have been more understanding of the situation or polite but it would have been nice for a manager to be more observant and offer us a drink or something! Red horse fell short of my...
Read moreGood food, great service, a little over priced... Valet parking-very limited street parking, no charge for valet, don't be a jerk, tip them...they run all night long Reservations-we made them(6pm), was pretty crowded by the time we left (730), seated right away Staff-everyone really friendly and attentive. Our server was Meaghan and she was awesome 🌟🌟🌟 Atmosphere-noisy with conversations and music was kinda loud, was pretty warm, they couldn't get the temp right Food-everything was really good Popovers-ive never had these before, they were ok, not something I would get again, but that's just my preference. Octopus carpaccio-this I enjoyed. It was chilled just right and refreshing. It had these small roundish red chilis on them that were burst full of flavor, maybe they were tomatoes, idk what they were but it made the dish for me Crispy Johnny Hong Kong lobster- ok I had a love/hate relationship with this dish. The love, there was so much love. Whatever was on the lobster, was so tasty (Singapore chili sauce?). The veg fried rice was SO good. The hate was minimal--I couldn't tell which parts to eat because of the fried parts on top of the lobster meat. I ended up getting a lot of shell at moments--yes I've had lobster before, it was just difficult to eat this one (the cocktail may have made this difficult, I was a little buzzed-lightweight) Rib eye - husband said it was a lot of fat and bone 🤷♀️ but what meat was there was seasoned well, cooked to his preferred medium/rare temp Onion soup mashed potato gratin--its mashed potatoes with brown/beefy broth on it---it was pretty good, enough to share but really wasn't needed Sugared donuts and macarons--enough for 4 people (1 each)..the donuts were my favorite, with the raspberry jam. The macarons could have been served a tad more ro temp to not have that refrigerator taste Overall really good meal, but I feel...
Read moreIf you look at the reviews' dates, you see the more recent they are, the less complimentary. And, that was our experience last night. Although we had reservations, we were seated upstairs at a very difficult table. Crammed between a staircase bannister and two other tables, we were bumped all night by serving staff, and on several occasions had a waiter's backside resting against our table while he tried to serve others. Service was slow and uneven, with patrons who were seated long after us finishing their meals, while we were still waiting for the entrees. The staff is equally as confused and you'll see runners bringing food to the wrong tables, and people examining the dish before they realize its not for them. But, the epicenter of their failure is their kitchen, its painfully slow and our entrees arrived - long after the appetizers were cleared - over cooked and cold. When you serve a cold Dover Sole for $78 and a very cold duck breast for $68, you're doing something wrong. And, while the pork chop was acceptable in temperature and taste, the Korean beef was absolutely tasteless - which is really hard for something billing itself as Korean. The entire dinner for four, with only glasses of wine - cost over $600 with tip. Aware of our dissatisfaction, they repeatedly tried to win us back with a free dessert, a tactic most often found at down-market chain restaurants. But, we declined what turned out to be their only consideration. Uncomfortably noisy and crowded, coupled with cold food and slow service put this place at the bottom of our list. Substituting décor and price for good food and good service is a mistake David Burke is making, you...
