The Hungry Lobster — Restaurant in Rye

We came here after the waitstaff at Ray's was super rude to us, and now I'm thankful they were. The staff at the Hungry Lobster is friendly, attentive, and quick, and the food is top-notch. We had a cold Maine-style lobster roll, the Fluffy Chowder, and lobster mac. The lobster roll was full size and stuffed with fresh, flavorful meat, on a perfectly grilled bun that wasn't oily. The lobster mac was rich and satisfying, especially once we added a bit of black pepper to give it some bite. The chowder was the big surprise; I grew up in New England, and topping chowder with lobster has never been typical. But the Hungry Lobster has the right idea, with big chunks of claw and tail meat that have been steamed separately and then placed on top, not cooked in the chowder, where they would probably get mushy. The soup base itself is super creamy and filling. The three dishes added up to about $80, but it was money well spent for such a high quality meal. If you LOVE LOBSTER and cute little take out places with a few places, this is it!!! I know everyone raves about the fluffy chowder. I had it the first time we went. It is delicious. However, if you want something that you will feel guilty for eating all of, it’s the large Lobsters bisque. We ordered a couple sandwiches to eat before we headed home. Our original plan was to get a fresh baked roll of bread to go with dinner. But neither of us remembered. The taste far exceeded the smell in the backseat. After seeing a reference to “Fluffy” Clam Chowder on the web, we had to make the trip. Hands down, it was well worth it. Pretty casual setting and clean. Limited seating with lots of takeout. The woman at the counter was friendly and quick with the food! The fluffy chowder with lobster on top was a delight. As a self identified “chowder” guy, it was fresh, hot, and tasty.
