El San Felipe Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Sainte Genevieve

Worst experience ever. We came here a few times when it first opened and were pleased, but then service kept getting worse and food became very bland. Decided to give them another chance tonight because we were in the mood for margaritas, which were good last time we were here. The cheese on our meal was like water, I paid $4.99 for shrimp to be added and there were 4 small shrimp added to the meal, the taco shells had an after-taste so bad my mother-in-law couldn’t eat them, my moms meal was ice cold and my husband didn’t like his tacos (and he likes all Mexican food). The worst part is our Margaritas were horrible - and not worth even finishing, we bought a pitcher and walked away from a quarter of it and two half glasses - that’s never happened in the history of our family going out for Mexican. The service was horrendous - the waitress did not bring the condiments requested, never once came back and checked on us and ignored us when he tried flagging her down three times. When I asked to speak to a manager, she said one wasn’t available and the owner was the only one there, but she didn’t know where he was. We will not return. The waitress tried to make it up to us by offering us a margarita to go which she said she would personally make better, but there really was little someone could do to make this experience better. Jayden was our waitress, and was great! The food was very good also. But as we were paying our bill in the lobby, one of the bosses was in the process of firing the other waitress (also taking place in the lobby, right by the cash register). He was listing all her faults right in front of everyone, including "you stand around and do nothing". While we were eating, she was either taking care of her customers, or standing up front in the lobby sanitizing menus. You don't criticize people in public, only compliment them in front of others. Other than this totally classless behavior, it was a very good place. Management cost them a 5 star rating.

Update.... the response from management is a total lie. That waitress specifically asked if she is being let go, and the response was that there were several other people who want to come back and work there again. Our waitress was busy trying to act like that wasn't really happening right in front of us. I know what I heard. You won't have to worry about it, there are other restaurants with honest management. You have no integrity, and I feel sorry for the staff that has to tolerate a...

Today was a complete let down. This place always has had good food, but the service was nothing to write home about. If you have been there you understand what I am saying. We came out for a Saturday lunch and all ordered items we normally do. It started with me asking for the spicy salsa that never came. Then the small bug floating in my wife’s water glass. Then my son got something completely different looking then ever before. It was nothing at all like the same dish. Even the server said it didn’t look right and took it back to ask and said it’s going into the trash cause no one wanted it. He then ordered something different and once everyone was done eating, his finally came out. We wrapped up what was left in togo boxes and got the check. With the pile of what ever is on the bill. We bring a lot of people to this restaurant and have to apologize for the service each time, but after today we will find a new place to bring people from out of town....
