Chucks Place — Restaurant in Salem

I drove an hour from Neoga because the reviews were really good. Apparently the reviews are all fake. Ok, this place has a sign outside claiming they have the best burgers around. Compared to what? I supposed the best burgers around that block may be true. Absolutely no seasoning on the meat..at all Not only are the buns not toasted but I believe, going by how cold the bun for my burger was, the buns are kept in a refrigerator. I ordered the "cajun" fries. NOPE! they are a cheap, frozen "battered" fry with NO seasoning at all. The same basic "Quick Fry" that so many restaurants get from Sysco or US Foods that so many other restaurants are passing off as "seasoned" fries. They're called "Quick Fries" because they cook up fast and they stay crispy even once they've cooled off. I also ordered the chili. Jesus christ 🙄! It had the exact same unseasoned meat that's used to make the burgers. Their chili consists of unseasoned meat, a can of chili starter and tomato juice and some beans. No additional seasoning.. Kind of like Moonshine, outside of Casey Illinois, I'm sure at one time the burgers and food in general was probably really great but now, not so much. When you come to Chuck's you come here for a good burger and a good time. The staff is always super busy as well as friendly. The prices are very reasonable. Biting into a Chuck's burger after a long week of dealing with work and unconventional situations makes all the stress and everything disappear in the moment and it's just you and your burger and whoever you have to be sharing that moment with. It's a little hard to write a review about a cheeseburger but allow me to explain why I'm willing to travel 20 miles one way for a cheeseburger from this place. The love that goes into the food and community is reflected on the owner's facial expressions, through the staff, as well as the food. There's a nice spot to sit outside if you have your dog with you, and they will even offer to bring your pup some water to go with his cheeseburger. Lauren was awesome, very friendly and engaging. She greeted me as soon as I walked in. She was very knowledgeable of there menu answering the couple of questions I asked.

Initially wasn’t going to go w/ The Brutus like my fiend D at Hunting Stuff recommended because I didn’t want to be in a burger coma on my drive back to TN. Couldn’t resist. The capper was Saracha grilled burger patties!!! Yes please. Added some Cajun fries, think Rally’s breaded fires just a lighter batter.

Bottom line, one of the best burgers I have had…period. Smashburger style with all the fixings prepared perfectly to order and quick.
