The Houston Co Cafe — Restaurant in Salisbury Township

I’m disappointed in my recent visit. I’ve been here before and it was good, but something changed because the food was awful today. I had a ciabatta melt with fries and my mom had soup and a salad. I’d expect a “melt” to be on toasted bread and served warm. The bread was not toasted and the entire sandwich was somehow cold even though the cheese was melted. The fries appeared to not even be fried, they were soggy and not crispy, and tasted like grocery store freezer fries. My mom’s soup and salad was fine, but nothing to write home about. We also ordered a burger to take home for my dad. We ordered the Austin, the only burger on the menu, but got it with just cheese on it. I looked at it when it came out - it looked worse than hospital food. He said it tasted “like freezer” and he would’ve rather had a burger from a truck stop. I don’t usually go out of my way to write about a bad experience, but this was a serious downgrade from past times I’ve visited, and for $60+ I expected more. I had a hard time finding this place because Google Maps takes you to a church/school, and I think this cafe loses business because of that. Otherwise, the coffee is decent but the espresso has a bitter and burnt taste (they aren't busy so I suspect it's because of old coffee bean usage, if it's a weekend it may be better). I didn't get any food, but that seems to be their claim to fame versus drinks.

My only qualm is that the drink I ordered was definitely not what I got. I ordered a Longhorn, which comes with marshmallow, chocolate, and toasted marshmallow on top. Instead, I was given an iced mocha with what seems to be no marshmallow at all. I wouldn't be upset if I would have notified of this change, but I expected a signature drink--not an iced mocha.

Otherwise, the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful. If this cafe can narrow in their drink performance, I can definitely see them becoming...

I am shocked. Ive only heard good things about this place and their Instagram and everything looked amazing. I think McDonald's could be better than this place. I got their "kickin chicken" sandwich and lemme tell you, its nothing like the picture on their Instagram. I was expecting big flavorful breaded chicken with a tasty sauce. Nope, it literally looks like a chicken patty you buy at a store or get in a high school cafeteria. The fries that came with it were flavorful but they were pale, cold and seemed to be barely cooked. I also got a Strawberry acai refresher. It tasted like watered down apple juice. Nothing Strawberry about it. for both my friend and i it was $50 WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THAT QUALITY.
