Very pleasant, attentive service. The coffee varieties are well above par for the area. Breakfast menu offerings are local and home cooked. Not so sure about the stained glass windows though. I mean, it’s a novel idea to repurpose a church into a cafe but; I just don’t feel so reverent or holy when I need a good cup of joe. I actually feel a little decadent/guilty sometimes when I indulge in a great coffee (which they definitely have!) A catholic here, so I get enough of the guilt anyway so kinda don’t need to be reminded of that first thing in the morning. I usually grab a take-away coffee and croissant and don’t go upstairs to the old church. They do hold some yoga classes in the old church, so I kinda see where the stained glass might be OK for that. Suggest they get better established, and take the stained glass windows out and replace with clear to create a more airy, less heavy atmosphere. Was always taught to be quiet in church so the stained glass, to me, doesn’t promote lively conversation typically found in a cafe. They could mount the stained glass panels on the walls or hang from the ceiling to cast colors around the space. That would be cool...

I have now been a few times - and even though I live a bit away- I wish I could go everyday.

Where to begin? Let’s start with the people. I heard about this place from instagram and loved the story behind it so thought next time I was up at Hidden Valley I’d stop by. Now I’m hooked and the team that works there are incredible- they are so kind and always make me feel so welcome.

The food and coffee is so incredible. I love the seasonal lattes and matcha drinks. Their espresso machine is so cool- I love to watch them make the drinks.

And then the food- don’t even get me started. I’ve had so much and always take more to go. Soups, salads, the special of the day- I can’t get enough. And I heard they have a catering business too!

The gift shop has a great mix of local, useful, and gorgeous gifts. I always find perfect gifts for my friends!

I didn’t even talk about the space!! It’s so unique and they’ve done such a great job with it. I love that they have events in the space as well like yoga, flower arranging, and weddings!

I could go on and on. I love this place -...

Andrew and his sister have done an outstanding job creating an eclectic space that blends history with hints of new and fresh vibes while preserving and respecting the original architecture of the building. The energy is uplifting and fresh. The offers of home cooked food pastries and barista coffee delights puts this venue on anyone’s “A” list. Local artisan’s talents are highlighted in the adjoining gift shop where you’ll find unique treasures. The staff is knowledgeable of the surrounding areas activities and provide ideas for endless outdoor fun. I’m looking forward to attending a yoga practice at SPARKS IN THE VALLEY and would not hesitate to host an event in the lovely upstairs space while utilizing the private park-like outdoor property.

stay humble honest and...

I can't recommend Sparks in the Valley enough! This family-owned coffee shop is a true gem, and you can feel the love and passion they've poured into it. We were lucky enough to get a tour from Andrew, and it's clear that love went into every single detail. The space itself is stunning—a beautifully transformed church that's full of character and charm. My coffee was absolutely amazing, and everyone in our group raved about their sandwiches. It's more than just a coffee shop; it's a real community hub, with yoga classes and other events. A wonderful experience all around, and I can't wait to see what's in store next!

Love this place! Sparks in the Valley is a charming little cafe tucked away in a renovated church. The coffee is outstanding, as are the pastries and grab-and-go food items. I tried the breakfast bagel sandwich and almond croissant -- both were delicious! And their gift displays of locally-sourced goods (such as handmade pottery and preserves) are tastefully arranged and very reasonably priced, too. If you're passing through the Laurel Highlands area, be sure to add Sparks in the Valley to your GPS! 🙂

Really really cool atmosphere. It’s in an old church. Park in the back, that’s where the entrance is. You order downstairs (there’s also a little gift shop with local items) and you can sit upstairs in the church part. We had the biscuits and gravy and it was good. The food menu changes frequently. It’s usually down home style cooking. There are plenty of things we want to come back and try!
