We arrived as a group of 6 for a slightly early supper. Our party included my 3 year old. We had no problem getting seated immediately and comfortably, and they did have a booster seat for the little guy. Our waiter remained attentive and completely in tune with our needs the entire time, ensuring I never set down an empty glass, and I was thirsty. He seemed very confident in what he was doing. My family can be particular; it's common for our wait staff to be faced with, "What do you recommend?" "Can you tell me the specials again?" "What's in that, how is it prepared?" "Absolutely NO onions or garlic, please!" Our waiter said to more than one of us, "Okay, I know just what you'll like. You'll like it." I was skeptical. I ordered cheese enchiladas but with the tomatillo green sauce, a special request. My son's dinner arrived quickly, before the others (which parents can appreciate), and I was pleasantly surprised when everyone else's arrived not long after and every dish was genuinely enjoyed by each, no onions, no fuss! Mine was perfect. I also recommend their sopapillas, they were hot and soft with honey and cinnamon, and be prepared to share and bring some home. They do come with walnuts on them, for those who don't care for nuts in their desserts. Overall it was an entirely positive experience, not crowded at all perhaps due to the earlier dining time, wait staff excelled beyond expectations, food was hot...
Read morePapa nachos continues to be our favorite Mexican food restaurant in San Antonio, and we have tried many in the 20 years we've lived here. Right when you arrive, baskets of thin chips up here at the table with some excellent salsa. Really the chips and salsa are one of the reasons we love this restaurant. Thin crispy tortilla chips and fresh salsa that doesn't seem thick or heavy or cooked is exactly what we're looking for. The biggest challenge is not eating two baskets of chips before your food comes and spoiling your appetite.
I always get the cheese enchiladas with chili con carne, which is unusual for me because every place else I go I'm always looking to try something new every time I go. To me, the cheese enchiladas are perfection. My wife enjoys the salads here, my teenage sons like the fajitas, the puffy tacos, and the crispy tacos, and my two younger children enjoy the chicken fingers and fries or the mac and cheese.
Service here is almost always very quick, even if you have a family of 7 and get a server in training like we did this last visit. I enjoy running into several people we know almost every time we come here, which is usually Sundays for lunch. We also like that they have a bowl of cheap mints, some of which are chocolate mints, on...
Read moreI love coming to this little hole in the wall restaurant. It’s never super busy so we can always get in and the staff has always been nice. Their salsa is off the hook. It’s by far better than a lot of them other Mexican restaurants in town. My boyfriend and I always get the same thing. He gets the chipotle enchiladas which are really good, and I get the chicken quesadillas or the queso flameado. I was looking for this queso since I went to Mexico, and I found it here and by far the best one I tried in town until the last time I went it has been great. 100 times in a row and last time I went there was something different about it. There was like chunks of onion in it. Normally, I can’t taste the onion and it wasn’t as flavorful or as greasy as it usually is, and I questioned it because I would like to say I am a connoisseur of this dish being that I eat it, all the time. The waiter said that it just depends on who’s cooking it so hopefully next time I go it will be up to par. The quesadillas are really good as well. You get a ton of food for the price. I would highly recommend this place if you want some good...
