July 2023 - Sorry they were closed as it's a special place for my partner and I. Took a little video of their ducks that run around on the property.
Lovely Mother's Day meal here this May 2023 with my son and partner. Wonderful historic Inn with fine food for those not staying overnight. Wait staff told us many of the game dishes were sold out as they were tremendously popular last week. ! We didn't even remember them serving game other than duck. Glad everyone enjoyed these meal options. (see menu in photos) Our stuffed mushroom appetizer, seafood Newburg casserole, duck legs, and encrusted salmon boursin were all complimentary to the Chef. A bread basket comes with your order. The fresh daffodils on each table were a special touch and much appreciated.
Reopening after Covid restrictions, it was nice to have another meal here and see the kitchen has improved, and they've redecorated the main dining room with table linens that are an attractive improvement. A few years ago I would have given this Inn three stars after our first meal here together, but with the food served the other day, it's definitely four stars now.
Service was friendly and timely. Drinks from the bar in the neighboring room were good. An appetizer and two main dinner entrées were all well cooked. While we waited for our orders, two complimentary fresh rolls with herbs came out in a basket with butter - soft and warm.
The calamari that followed was hot, tender, lightly battered and seasoned. My half duck was pleasantly moist with a French brandy and raspberry reduction on the side. The meat, slow roasted for hours, was so palatable on its own I ate some of it by itself and some of it dunked in the inviting sauce. The dish came with mashed potatoes and a mix of cauliflower and broccoli that suited the duck.
A special dinner item, baked stuffed fresh filet of haddock with crab meat stuffing was also delicious. The menu says the stuffing is mixed with lemon, white wine, butter, mushrooms, onions and garlic. The fish is topped with a Ritz parmesan crumb and served golden brown and bubbling. My partner could have eaten two of these! This meal came with the same vegetable sides as my duck.
We would definitely order both of these dinners again and recommend them, but we have our eyes on a few other menu items for the next time we visit.
The New Boston Inn, another stagecoach inn built in 1737, is listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places. Along with its taproom, it has three dining rooms, a ballroom on the second floor, and updated guest rooms still true to the period each with their own private bath. It sits on two quiet acres.
Some guests come after seeing it on the SciFi channel's show, "Ghost Hunters" or reading about it in the Yankee Magazine, hoping to see their resident ghost, "Harriet." Whether you hope to see her or just want a historic place to stay in the Berkshires, stop over, or simply treat yourself to a fine meal. They have an event calander for things to do...
Read more:Have eaten here several times but finally writing a review. The ride to the inn is definitely worth it. As a fan of historic inns this one surely fits the bill. Be sure to ask for the history of the inn and why it's haunted. Never had any paranormal experiences. The reason to go there is the food. For a small inn, it has a great varied menu. Something for everyone. The bar area dates back to 1737. Two dining rooms are beautifully decorated. But the food is why you come here. ||My recent visit I shared entrees with my guest. Never ordered pork chops before but here you must!!They will be the best that you ever had. The way they are prepared are unlike any that you will find. Take my word for it. My entrée was the 10 oz steak paired with 4 shrimp scampi. Mashed potatoes and vegetable accompanied our entrees. Homemade rolls were delicious. For dessert we shared a poached pear in merlot with ice cream and death by chocolate. Both were worth saving room for. ||Trudy is an excellent server and provides great service without being intrusive. Barbara, owner/chef and Trudy both make you feel very welcomed like you're visiting family. Barbara is an excellent chef. Any entrée that I've tried never disappoints. Lunch menu is also very good. You will not be disappointed here and it's well-worth the drive. Can always stop at the Granville Country Store on the way as it's not far...
Read moreThis historic inn, which was founded in 1750, is a necessary stop if you are in the southern Berkshires. The inn consists of a restaurant that serves lunch and dinner, a pub, and guest rooms to rent. I didn't rent a room there (I wish I did), but I did eat at the restaurant, and drink at the pub, and I was very satisfied.
The restaurant specializes in western Massachusetts fare, and when I was there, I had clam chowder, fried pork chops with mashed potatoes, and chocolate layer cake. Other members of my group had pot roast, duck, and littleneck clams. All the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Even though half my group of ten failed to show up on time, the restaurant was very accomodating. The chowder was prepared with the skin left on the potato, which I hadn't seen before.
New Boston is one of the few villages in the Berkshires that has its own pub, and the pub attached to this inn reminded me of a pub in England or Ireland. The pub was small (6 bar stools, and 3 tables), but they had several really good beers on tap including two microbrews from the nearby Berkshire Brewing Company. The innkeeper, who also was the bartender, was quite friendly. The only thing that wasn't so good was that last call was at 9:30 PM, but I guess having a bar in your village that closes at 9:30 is better than...
