Went with the family on an ice cream adventure to the Sandwich Creamery. Got hassled a little because it's a lot of dirt road to get there and some hills, but once you get there it is a lot of fun. This is a New England honor based business where they stack the coolers with all sorts of ice cream flavors in three sizes plus sundaes and ice cream sandwiches. You write down what you took and put the money in the mailbox built into the wall. Please NOTE this is a CASH BASED BUSINESS ONLY so bring small bills as there is no change available. This was a fun adventure and we'd go back again just for the fun of it. I got a small grapenut custard, dirt road, and tipsy turtle. I picked up sea salt caramel for our daughter. My husband got cow tracks. And my son and daughter-in-law got grasshopper pie, s'mores, oreo, and some chocolate milk. Just a suggestion more grapenut cereal in...
Read moreWent looking for this mysterious Ice Cream spot after reading a local fishwrap whilst waiting in a North Conway restaurant. We headed out for an adventure on a rainy day and followed the instructions. Something like “Take the main road, then turn onto the secondary, then onto the tertiary road, onto the the dirt road, and then finally follow the two dirt tracks up the mountain”. When the bear crossed the road just in front of us we figured we were close. Then the meadow opened in front of us and there was Shangri-La. Amazing flavours such as Lemon Ginger, Blueberry, etc all self served from a little shop on the porch. Through the windows you could even watch the elves making their wonderful products.
We have now been there twice, and I assure you that I would drive all the way from Canada just to visit this...
Read moreCute little self serve ice cream shop off the beaten path. Seriously. It's about a mile down a dirt road with some terrible bumps.
The building is a small little room with two coolers. Inside you'll find 2 medium sized coolers with 3 different sizes of pre cupped ice cream. A slot in the wall ask you to deposit the correct amount you take. It is obviously cash only. The ice cream itself is phenomenal and definitely worth a trip. I do advise bringing a spoon from home. The ice cream is kept at a rock hard temperature and all they provide is wooden spoons which just aren't adequate in my opinion.
There is a variety of places to sit and enjoy your ice cream. Also a porta potty that is kept pretty clean if you need to go.
I'd recommend visiting this place if you're in the area or want to go for a...
