This was probably about 5 years go...It was around 10:00 on a Saturday and we pulled up to the Layton General Store fixing to get some breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Upon walking up, a voice from inside, with a Greek accent shouted 'we don't open until 11:00.' Mostly because we were disturbingly hangry, we didn't respond and simply pivoted back to the car to drive.
After doing a little interwebs digging, we found out that the place had been purchased by a Greek couple and was very highly rated as a Greek restaurant. But the menu on the website said they still served breakfast...at 11:00? For those who don't know, the Store is on the way to and from PA via the Dingmen's Ferry Bridge so during the week, it's always been an ideal breakfast stop for the morning commuter-but not anymore. So, we drove on. Upon coming to the intersection at 206, we made the choice to go left as I didn't recall anything else being to the right. 10 minutes later we came upon the Hainesville General Store and we walked in...
THIS was how I remember the Layton General Store to be, only better!
We waited for the regulars to place their orders because we had a substantial order to make (6 people, 2 sets of sandwiches for each) and we let the people behind the counter know. Once we wrote down our order and gave it to them, they could not have been nicer...they stopped to take other orders from other regulars, which was the proper thing to do, and we did not mind one bit as they had so much cool stuff to browse, from historical artifacts to camping gear.
20 minutes later, we had a couple of beer boxes filled with sandwiches and drinks and chips...I think the bill was around $150, which is the first time I've ever spent that much in a deli, but we found it was worth it because everything was perfectly made...they even layered the meats, cheeses and veggies correctly (which is something so simple to do but that many places don't).
Do seek this place out if you are up round those parts- actually stop there on your way to Milford...

The selection of food and products is excellent, especially the sandwiches and baked goods. They also sell a variety of local food and products.
I visited this place on a recent trip to the Delaware Water Gap. I was looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and I was pleasantly surprised by the selection of food and the friendly service. I ordered a slice of peach pie, which was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! The pie was fresh, had the perfect amount of sugar, and was just the right size for a snack!
I also tried a few of the other baked goods, including the breads and cakes. Everything I tried was delicious and tasted fresh! Their service was also excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful, and they were happy to make recommendations!
