Shaw's Ridge Farm Ice Cream, BBQ & Mini-Golf — Restaurant in Sanford

There is a wide variety of ice cream flavors but the quality was nothing to write home about. Prices for the ice cream were high. We live in the Baltimore / Washington DC area so we know what expensive looks like. This place was expensive for what you get.

The BBQ was disappointing. While the meats (chicken and pork) were nice and moist the portions for the price were very small. Or maybe a better way to put it, the portion sizes for lunch were reasonable. The price for lunch was very high. $30 for two lunches with 1 meat and 2 sides each.

The house BBQ sauce was runny as water and tasted mostly like vinegar. My son likened it to vinaigrette salad dressing without much flavor. The only other choice for sauce was Sweet Baby Rays. While I like SBR, one of the best things about BBQ restaurants is the opportunity to try new BBQ sauces. Big disappointment here.

The baked beans were not much different from what you get straight out of the can. Every other BBQ place I have been to has beans that are prepared in sauce that is based on the house BBQ sauce(s) and have ample pieces of burnt ends or other bits of smoked meat in with the beans. Nothing like that here.

The cornbread was good. We each got a big piece with our meals. It was moist and a little sweet. My son and I liked it very much. Sadly that was the highlight of the meal.

I would not recommend this place if this is the typical experience. We were here when the COVID restrictions were just beginning to be lifted. So perhaps that had an impact on the quality, quantity and variety of the food. There are other BBQ places in the area. If we decide to do BBQ again before we leave for home, we will give one...

Gave similar feedback privately month ago with no real change so here goes. Ice cream is great. Setting is beaucolic. Service is horrendous. My order a month ago was a total disaster. Took forever to get and when I got it it wasn’t even close to correct. When asked to have it corrected was looked at like I had four head.

Tonight I’m back to try again. Window and indoor counter open but told after waiting inside for a while, that I had to order outside. This is right after employee took an inside person’s order and I have been standing here for 10 minutes, clearly waiting to order with staff yelling over “we will be right with you”. They even have signs with arrows stating both the outside window and indoor parlour are open. While waiting a woman came in who had received an incorrect order and instead of apologizing (so much for the customer is always right), the girl started arguing with her about how she “knew she scooped the right ice cream” etc etc. I was embarrassed for her.

I watched one girl lick her fingers after serving ice cream and another handle money and then touch a cone and begin scooping ice cream. The staff is inept, not trained, have pony tails and hair down with no hair nets, are licking their fingers, handling money and then food - all health code/sanitation violations. Awesome products but terrible service! To start when I ordered a peanut butter ice cream for my son the young girl was quick to admonish me that they didnt have pb but only pb cookie with a wicked attitude. Waited almost an hour after that on Mother's day for 7 items and an almost $80 order to have the last ice cream not even made and had to ask for it creating more attitude and questioning did I really order it??! No I'm still standing here with no ice cream in a place with the welcoming vibe of funeral parlor bc I find it fun! After telling the girl my simple order of pumpkin on a cone again andd an hour later another 5 minutes of my life faded away just to be handed a dismal looking scoop of ice cream in a bowl... and more attitude of oh well I can put a cone on it lol how bout you give me what I paid my hard earned money for and never mind the waste of my life and time.. at least that pathetic young girl working was being compensated for her time while mine was just trashed by these "employees". Won't be going back after many years swinging in. And if the owners see this your employees don't give 2 fs, I watched 7+ ppl not get helped and end up walking out with cash un spent, oh and another order in my party was wrong but they just didn't want to deal with the "employees"...
