First time here this morning with my wife and my dad. As a restaurant owner in the business for over 40 years, I would want to know about this disaster. Mr. & Mrs. Scott please reply with a method for me to contact you. I asked for a manager but didnt get one. I looked on your website but there is no contact info. I don't want anything but to tell you what happened. I think it's time for a staff meeting. I have been so confused by this trip to your restaurant that I have re written this review 5 times. I cannot believe I have spent so much time on this. I asked for a reply with contact info when I wrote this yesterday but I do not want to spend any more time on this so I will just put down as best I can what happened.
Let me try and sum up our experience as best I can. I know I am not very pithy. I want to just list what was wrong but I feel that there needs to be context. Every time I try and write this review I am overcome with the feeling that for some reason the staff here did not want us there. I am so confused by this visit. I feel like I am in The Twilight Zone or being Punk'd. I cannot find the words to even express how horrible a visit this was. Not to mention how completely opposite our experience was compared to the other reviews. We were dressed like everyone else there. We are clean. We weren't loud or obnoxious. We know how to act in a restaurant and were very kind, in my opinion, to the staff. My dad is 81 and can be difficult sometimes but this was not one of those times. Granted he has a thick Salvadoran accent but everyone seemed to understand him. He speaks English as well as anyone.
Our server seemed young and inexperienced. The coffee was lukewarm. Nobody came by to offer coffee refills. Our order was not only poorly prepared and served but aside from my wife we did not get what we ordered. I am not talking about tomatoes when I asked for no tomatoes. I mean I was served chorizo and papas, that I did not even order. When the waitress told me what it was I was surprised because there was no chorizo in it. My dad was never served his plate. I don't mean we had to wait while the server made another trip to the kitchen. I mean she served two plates to a 3 top and completely ignored the fact that she wasn't setting down a plate for the third person. No, "your plate is coming right out" or even "I am sorry but the kitchen made a mistake and your plate will be out in a couple of minutes", nothing. She then returned a couple of minutes later. My wife and I had not touched our food as we were waiting for my dad to get served. She asked us how everything tasted. Again, completely ignoring the fact that my dad did not get served. We ordered at the same time. When the table with the two men that came in 10 minute after us was served my dad called the waitress over and told her to cancel his order and just bring him a pancake.
I ordered Chilaquiles. All of the ingredients that were listed in the description seemed to be there but it was hard to tell as it was just swimming in enchilada sauce. More like a soup then anything else. I know what Chilaquiles are, my restaurant is Mexican, but maybe Nealie's Skillet makes them with potatoes instead of chips. I had to get up and read the menu before I said anything. Sure enough, it was supposed to have chips. I wasn't completely sure I was served the wrong dish because it was so hard to tell. When she came back with the pancake I asked her if my dish was in fact Chilaquiles. Her answer was so weird. She answered right away. She knew I did not have what I had ordered. "You were served what he (my dad) ordered I think. Do you not want it?"
My wife's hash browns tasted like they had been out all morning and were cooked on the same dirty griddle as my cheap and greasy bacon. Her frittata could only have been more overcooked if it was burnt. The same thing can be said for the eggs on the dish I didn't order. The skillet that I was served came in a crusty frying pan. I have exceeded my character limit. ...
Read moreFirst of all let me start by saying the food here is really really good. I came to this restaurant for the first time on Saturday April 29 at around noon. My three star rating and criticism of the restaurant is not because of the food it's because of the staff. Little things that really bother customers especially during a high inflationary period when everybody wants way more money to eat and to do business with their establishment than normal. The first thing I notice about our waitress is the fact that she brings the food to the table and there's four of us sitting at the table and then starts to walk away. I had to stop her and ask for silverware. A few minutes later I asked her for a cup of water. I watched her walk to the cash register and just stood there, day dreaming for a few minutes until she finally walks back over 6 feet from our table to the soda machine to get a glass of water ( funny thing is is that she had to walk twelve feet away from her table to just stand at the cash register). This waitress never came to our table and asked us if we wanted anything else. If we wanted our coffee cups refilled..... we got nothing. But of course she didn't forget to give us our bill and ask test a tip. If your staff is unfriendly and or passive-aggressive do they still want a tip for that kind of behavior? They actually do, but I don't leave tips for that kind of behavior. If the restaurant industry would raise its standards and pay a living wage to their employees we wouldn't have to deal with these kind of people. I for one am willing pay extra to actually get a person who really cares about their. What customers are actually getting for the high prices they're paying are...
Read moreWe stopped here for lunch during a trip to Six Flags. While the location seemed quaint, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly.
There were a few issues and the service quickly turned bizarre and awkward.
They were out of kids menus. Not a big deal, but it would have helped to be informed of this at seating.
My son ordered a cheeseburger. 5 minutes after placing the order, the server comes back and tells us they're out of buns. He suggested to get the cheeseburger on French Toast. Why?
My food arrived. Eggs were overcooked and I alerted the server. He says they're supposed to be like that. The style of eggs were "over poached"
The server spent the rest of the visit avoiding us and quickly dropped off the check.
As for the flavor of the food:
I ordered the chicken and waffle Benedict. Chicken was under seasoned. Waffle has no flavor or texture. The arugula was the only thing I could taste in the dish. My purposely "over poached" egg was left alone as I did not get a Benedict to eat hard boiled eggs.
To the cook: try seasoning your food a bit. I know this restaurant is located in suburbia with delicate palates, but most people don't like...
