Service was very slow and I believe it was due to all the takeout orders that were ahead of us. There was very few people in the restaurant but it took about 40 minutes to receive our food. At about the 30-minute mark we inquired why it was taking so long and was told there was a lot of orders ahead of us. I generally don't have a problem with that if we're informed. Upon ordering if they would have said, it's going to be a longer wait today, that would have given us an option to stay or go. Food at this restaurant is very creative and very thoughtfully prepared but in my mind it wasn't worth waiting 40 minutes. I don't really care for the shoe string french fries ... was unaware that they were shoestring before I ordered them. The sliders were pretty good although I prefer my meat to be cooked all the way through and these were rare but at this point I wasn't going to send them back because I was really hungry. In general I would say the service needs to be improved a bit. I understand that take out orders are important for the support of the business but when you walk into the actual restaurant and you have to wait 40 minutes, it might be a good idea to expand the kitchen and or staff. I got two sliders, a basket of fries to share, my friend got a pastrami sandwich and a small beer and the total came to $44 which I thought was a lot. The menu expensive and appears the chef has put a lot of thought into...

I was meeting my family here for lunch on a busy Saturday. I was the first one to arrive and there were no open tables so I figured I would grab some tissue from the bathroom while I waited for them. My allergies had gotten the best of me that day. Anyway, the bartender literally and physically cut me off as I was walking to the bathroom and aggressively asked if I was going to buy something (I had previously been standing in line for a table but person in front of me was apparently ordering food for a football team) I replied that I was (could that possibly be the reason that I was standing in the “order” line?), and he rudely yelled at me, in front of all the customers within earshot, that the bathroom was for paying costumers only. He apparently didn’t see me standing in line to order. I ended up just walking out. We had a nice lunch somewhere else. Obviously, we won’t be back. Terrible customer service.

I’ve worked in food service my entire life. You don’t treat people that way, no matter what kind of day you’re having. You don’t have to be unkind and yell at people just because you can. It’s not necessary. Bartender, get another job. Food service...

My wife, I and another couple arrived at the Saloon at 2:30 on a Saturday. All but one of the 7 or 8 tables were occupied, so we were lucky to get a table. We went to the bar and ordered food - sandwiches and a board of sausage and cheese. We seated ourselves and waited for the food -- and waited, and waited and waited. We noticed that food orders seemed to emerge from the kitchen no more often than every 15 minutes. After waiting an hour, we complained. The restaurant apologized and brought us a lousy basket of chips to tide us over. Finally, after an hour and 40 minutes of waiting, I went to the bar and demanded a refund. The manager (so to speak) urged us to stay, stating that there we STILL another table in front of our order. I have not idea what the quality of the food might be, because we got our refund and left. But even if the food was of the highest caliber imaginable, who on earth would be willing wait two hours for service!!! So, in conclusion, don't go to the Black Bird unless you have absolutely nothing to do for the next hour or so. In my view, the operation of this restaurant is completely...

Clearly this is one of the best saloons in the southwestern US - this is a must stop on the way to Santa Fe

We drove 2.5 hours from Magdalena, NM to check out the sweet little town of Madrid and Cerrillos. We had read about Blackbird Saloon and how it was a husband and wife operation, similar to ours at our own diner. We loved their story and the concept and everything in the photos online looked very thoughtful, vintage, and old world. We ate there twice during our trip. Once for dinner, and once for brunch. For dinner we had the market pork chop, trumpet mushroom toast, and a takeaway cheese board. All delicious, simple, high quality ingredients. Great casual service, beautiful and cozy ambiance. Brunch was also great. Met the owner Patrick, front of house manager Suzanne, and the in house baker Leslie. All very lovely people. Will definitely be back and tell everyone about this place!
