Food is on par for a motel diner (if you’re staying at the motel, the diner is open 24/7, nice)
My service sucked!!! Let me preface this, that I walk with a cane and standing still, hurts more than walking and I get dizzy, plus the Diner is used as the office for motel and register for diner, but the lady up front has no clue how to run either. I walked in by myself, there was a person at register, I stand waiting for a seat, a table of people gets up, and goes to register to pay for food, I wait, someone comes in behind me to check out of a room, I wait, another person comes in to check out, I wait, then the lady clears and cleans a table, then back to the corner office/register and does something else for like 20 seconds. Approximately 6-7 minutes after arriving she finally acknowledges that I’m there, and says sit anywhere (which is odd for two reasons, 1. Why didn’t she say that 6-7 min ago. & 2. There is an actual sign that says booths are for 2 or more people and from where I stood I saw no place to sit other than booths) I order a meal, and a hot chocolate… meal arrives relatively quickly (I was the only person in the diner eating by then) I eat the entire sandwich, and a side of onion rings… then after I was done eating, poof, that’s when she gets around to bringing the hot chocolate. I really wanted it so didn’t say anything about being done with my food or sending it back. Then after being done with all, I waited for bill, and waited, and waited… 15 minutes later I get up and go to the register and she asks if I want my bill. I wanted to answer no and walk out but I paid the bill.
I actually like the idea of having the office for the motel double as the register for the diner allowing the diner to stay open 24/7 - as a frequent traveler, this is awesome when you check-in late. With that said, if this lady is going to be the “face” of both establishments then she should be able to do so and lunch time (which is when I was there) maybe have more people to run each...
Read moreIll preface this by saying we were the only ones in the reastuant at the time You don't really expect much from a truck stop diner but holy hell it was ridiculous. Walked in and the waities immediately had an attitude, we tried to say good morning but she just gave us a dirty look and walked away. We sat down and she brings us 2 menus and says "the prices are wrong on there" and nothing else. we ordered 2 coffees and 2 hot chocolates for the kids, 5 minutes later she brings out 1 coffee and a water. We ask for the first time for creamer and silverwear.5 minutes later she comes by and asks what we want to eat, we say we are still waiting on the other coffeee, hot chocolates, and creamer /silver wear, she says she knows and walks away. Comes back with the 2 hot chocolates about 2 minutes later and says they are making more coffee. Ok. We order our food but are told they don't know how to make sunny side up eggs. Ok. We ask for creamer and silverware again. 15 minutes later we again ask for the other coffee, creamer and silver wear. She asks us if we want more coffee, we say no, we are still waiting on the other coffee, creamer and silverware. We watch as she just now started making a new pot of coffee a minimum 20 minutes after they said they were making it. She finally brings it and we once again ask for creamer and silverware. She brings out the creamer and one spoon. At that point we had enough and just told her to charge us what was on the table and we were leaving. She said we could just go, I guess she was to lazy to charge us aswell. Absolutely and utterly ridiculous. The person who we assume is the manager who was sitting 5 feet from us the whole time seemed so confused as to why we were leaving. I'm still dumbfounded by the...
Read moreI love the location being out of town and a great view of the desert. I live close by so I visit Pennys often. Today my companion and i were the only customers. Sadly, each time I go here, I'm just not happy with the food. Everything is tasteless. The omelet I had was rubbery and cold. Even the cheese inside was cold, not warm and melty the way omelet cheese should be. The omelet ingredients were so finely chopped that you couldnt make out what was a tomotoe and what was a mushroom. I don't know what the plan is for these hashbrowns. They are just cold shreds of white product that taste nothing like a potato. Even when they are cooked, they are still white with black burnt areas. Everything at least needs some butter to add flavor.
The milkshakes, as usual, were PERFECT. I would like if the paper straws were replaced with biodegradable plastic straws but that won't stop me from having Penny's milkshakes. They are amazing.
Service was thoughtful and kind, like always, although my companion and I could barely hear each other with the waitress and cook having a very loud almost "yelling" conversation for about half the time we were there. They are very nice service staff, just quite noisy.
I'm going to hate not going to Penny's but the breakfast food just needs to improve. I will say I've usually enjoy their lunch...
