I’ve been here a few times, not on my own accord. As soon as you walk in, there is a “gift shop” of random items.
The Hushpuppies are a little sweet tasting. They do not pair well with the cheese sauce. I find the hushpups best with butter.
The fish is like Russian roulette: it’s either mushy, cooked well or undercooked. There is not enough breading and lacks cooking consistency. However, it comes out freshly cooked which is a plus.
Fries come out hot…..
The atmosphere? Clunky, cluttered and claustrophobic. It is not cleaned well. The servers attire and presentation falls into this category
They bring out coleslaw also…. Haven’t I written this somewhere before?
Let’s get to the service - a dark haired lady who served us the first time and she was attentive and welcoming. Although it took a while, our drinks were refilled, napkins and silverware on table. It was busy that evening which I give this lady props for her hustle.
The second and third time a server named Hailey, Halley, Halsey….. she did not want to be there. So much in fact I could not get a clear answer on her name. I asked for a side of butter, never came. When the meal arrived we asked for some cocktail, never came. We asked for more water, it never came. The only thing she did during the entire service, was take our order and mutter her name. We had no refills, no napkins, no silverware, nothing. There was no friendly introduction, “Hi my name is Hailey, Halley, or Halsey, all 3 of us will be taking care of you this evening….” They were not busy and later I noticed this is how she treats other guests. EESH.
Thank goodness we knew you must pay upfront or we would have sat at the table until our deaths…. Waiting on the server to come back.
I write about this experience because there is nothing out here other than a gas station that serves seafood. Now 10 miles further and you reach some other establishments. But this location has a niche being the only thing in that area. This concept makes a 2 star restaurants become a 4 star restaurant.
There are 3 restaurants that do the same thing. One in Wilmer, State Line and this location and they all have one thing in common: the niche of...
Read moreSo I finished work early and had catfish on the brain. We have delicious catfish on the Mississippi Coast, but I wanted a change, and I wanted to take a scenic drive… leading me to Rocky Creek Catfish Cottage in Lucedale.
You walk into a quaint little store selling jewelry, candy, preserves and many other things.
Then you’re brought into a large dining room, seated, greeted warmly and given a menu. There’s definitely a little something for everyone, but I was there for the catfish filets. They also have whole catfish as well as a delicious looking seafood platter option!
The coleslaw was good. The hush puppies were incredible, served with a delicious cheese sauce! What a lovely idea! Those catfish filets were tasty, fried a little crisp, which I love, non-greasy, just so wonderful!
My only very minor drawback was the tartar sauce. Now this is just a personal preference, but it was on the sweeter side, and I prefer one with more onion or dill. Again a very small personal preference!
Also the service was wonderful! I truly can’t say enough about my server! She was so welcoming, always checked on me when the fish or tea got a little low, and also told me a little about Lucedale!
I’ll absolutely be back to try their seafood platter or that ribeye!
I truly wish them the...
Read moreNot worth the price for what you get. Was a part of a large party and our server was slow in checking in on us and seemed bothered by me asking for water. Made 80+ ladies order the expensive all you can eat plates knowing they won’t eat more than one filet. Like, cmon people charge them for the kids plate. Nothing special about the food as the same quality could be gotten at any catfish house. I guess it’s good for locals but if you live more than 5 miles away I wouldn’t bother. Another thing I noticed: no one asked “how was everything?” or something of the like. Almost...
