This place has been around for many years. It's a tiny place with 2 covered outdoor eating areas with picnic tables. It's located in the "sticks" along route 101.

I love the traditional clam cakes and chowder. This combo is a New England favorite. If you do not already know, a good bowl of chowder contains a generous amount of clams and potatoes. A decent clam cake will contain about 3-4 clams in each cake. Fried clam strips will be coated in a light batter, but the clams remain prevalent.

After dropping $29 for 2 bowls of chowder, a 1/2 dozen clam cakes, and an order of fried clam strips, I was expecting a treat. Instead, I got a bowl of broth with about 1-2 spoonfuls of some remnace of clams and potatoes. It was flavorful, but it lacked everything else. The clam cakes tasted good, but they did not contain any noticeable clams at all. The fried clams were served on a bed of fries giving the appearance of a huge portion of fried clams, but it was just an illusion. The clam strip batter was light and the strips tasted okay, but each strip was fried batter mostly. Let's face it, clam cakes aren't clam cakes without clams, the same goes for clam chowder and clam strips!

I wouldn't have minded the price had they not served such poor examples of these New England favorites. I was dissapointed. A few more clams and potatoes in the chowder, a couple of more clams in the cakes, and an order of high quality fried clam strips instead of batter and fries could have given this place a 5 star review. It's still worth trying because there are many other things on the menu. Maybe it was a bad day being at the end...

Service was great. The lady taking orders was a sweetheart, but unfortunately the food was some of the worst I've had. I was so looking forward to some clam cakes and Chowder. Naturally living in Virginia I can't get clam cakes, so only get them when I come to New England. So, I was pretty excited to stop and grab some. Got a large combo, about $15, which was a pint of Chowder and 4 clam cakes. The clam cakes were pretty big. When I broke apart my 1st cake I saw that there was only 1 clam in it. I very large whole clam, that actually looked like a scallop, which made me think it might not have even been a real clam. Literally though, just 1 clam with all the cake fried around that 1 clam. When I actually ate that clam, it was super salty and didn't taste very good. I then broke apart my other 3 cakes. There was not a single clam at all. No big, minced, chopped, nothing, and all the insides were still battery. They had not been cooked through. The. Chowder was a little bit better, but not much. The potatoes were tender, calling it a potato soup would have been more accurate. It had a pretty bad aftertaste, and again, there were almost no clams other than a couple of those large ones. I had 2 spoonfuls of Chowder and 1/2 a clam cake, then threw the rest away. Very disappointed. Maybe the other food is better, but the clam cakes and ...

First of all the food was horrible! No human being should be subjected to poor and greasy food. For starters I ordered the red New England clam chowder and it had over 20 cubed potatoes and literally two clams which was an embarrassment to this establishment. I brought this to the waitress attention and the chef added two more clams; mind you the clams were whole and not even cut to pieces. I threw out the soup and did not care to try it. Next up the $24.00 lobster roll was more disturbing! I ate one piece of the lobster and tasted stale like it’s been left over for some time. I thought to bring it home for my teenage son to enjoy and he almost vomited. $24.00 in the garbage. The crab cakes were even worse…greasy, greasy, greasy and no crab in sight. Eating just half of one my stomach started churning. I should have trusted my intuition and avoided this place. Folks with a discerning palate would agree in my findings. AVOID this place and go to a respectable seafood restaurant if you want quality food! Reached home and you guessed it. Antacids to the rescue. Thank God neither I or my son became ill as a result of trying this unhealthy and gross...

They have the best clam chowder which is why we drove 2 hours to get there. Not only is their clam chowder great, all their seafood dishes are. The batter isn't heavy nor is the food greasy despite it being fried. The place isn't a restaurant, there is no inside seating. You order at a window and take the tray to either side of the building to picnic tables and eat there. These areas are covered but open to the elements/breezes as there are no walls or windows so it is perfect for warm days to enjoy the outside without baking under the sun. (It is closed in winter). The prices are reasonable to moderate and the portions are generous.

Everything about our experience was super! We we're on a road trip from Harrisburg,PA to Boston and back. On our way back we needed to fill the need for a lobster roll from every state in New England and Rhode Island was today's state. Luckily for us Howards? (I believe it's renamed now) was on the way back. The service was super friendly and our food was cooked hot and fresh. We ordered a lobster roll, 2 franks, and bacon cheese fries. Everything we ordered was delicious. I'd recommend stopping here for sure. Thanks for reading my review. I hope you find it helpful. If you do please give it a thumb up 👍🏼
