I placed an order for a burger with everything on it but no condiments. Got a burger with nothing at all on it. Called to ask them if I could come back to have the order corrected. Someone on my end was yelling in the background, I apologized for the noise and told the person I was on the phone and continued to try to talk to the person on the other end of the line. They didn't respond, I could hear the restaurant in the background, they just didn't respond. I drove back to the restaurant and came inside. As soon as an employee came to ask me what I needed I set the food down and opened the packaging and explained my problem. All I wanted was the toppings. Didn't need them to remake the burger. Just wanted the toppings. They acted strange and walked into the back. After a few minutes a manager came and asked me what the problem was and I again explained. He tells me that was not what the order said. I again have to explain, yes, I know.. that's why I said my order was wrong. I ordered it with no condiments and they put down with nothing on it at all. They acted like I was nuts for wanting what I ordered. After giving me the food, this manager says to his employees that they can refuse service to anyone and turns to me to tell me off about "yelling at the employees" over the phone. I literally had someone else yelling in the background and apologized to these people while on the phone and explained that someone else was yelling and asked that person to be quiet because I was on the phone. They knew good and well I hadn't yelled at them, they just liked creating more conflict for someone else that was clearly already having a hard time. We haven't been back and we will never go back. I was looking at my reviews and noticed I had never updated this. It was over a year ago, almost 2, when this incident happened. That's not an appropriate way to treat a paying customer. They had even accused me of trying to get free food but I literally had the burger THEY MADE and only asked for the toppings that I was supposed to have had. It made no sense. I was not hostile, they treated me as if I was. I was calm the whole time. Was it my face? My face was red, it's called high blood pressure. Should I bring a doctors note with me next time I need to go inside a business and speak to someone? 🙄 again, we have not been back, my family has not been back and none of us will ever be back.
Someone else yelling at a kid in the background on my phone call should never ever warrant this type of behavior from staff, especially considering I explained it and had the decency to apologize which I have stated multiple times in this review just for the added clarity since nobody there had the capability of behaving...

This little bbq joint is located in Jackson County Park right by a boat rental area. It has a little pier/dock that extends a bit into the lake with tables and chairs where you can dine with a view of the water. The view is beautiful -- the lake pushes up against gorgeous green mountains -- and perfect on a sunny day. The view and location alone make it a highly desirable spot to eat lunch.
The inside of the restaurant is pretty typical of a southern bbq joint. Unpretentious, comfortable, a little kitschy in an endearing way. You walk right in and order at the counter. The staff was a little overwhelmed when we walked in and had some trouble keeping our large order straight, but they were friendly and considering how busy they were, it was understandable for sure. Plus, our order came out right, which is all that matters in the end.
We had the smoked wings, pulled pork loaded fries, and a pork plate with fries, garlic toast, and macaroni and cheese. We tried the sweet bbq and the ranch as our dipping/drizzling sauces of choice.
The food was okay to good, depending on the item. Weakest link was probably the macaroni and cheese, which had a very thin, anemic cheese sauce that didn't taste like much of anything. The crinkle cut fries were maybe a little underdone but salted perfectly. They went well with the ranch. The pork itself was pulled a little too finely for our tastes, making it a little mushy. It was also lacking a little bit of smoke flavor. However, we really liked the bbq sauce; it was a great balance of sweet and vinegary, and its addition helped make the pork better. The best thing was definitely the smoked wings. My only complaint is they were maybe a tiny bit dry, but they had excellent smoke flavor and a good texture -- not tough or anything. The garlic toast was also surprisingly delicious. Not soggy at all, crispy crust, and perfectly toasty.
If you're looking for a fun road trip from Huntsville (like us) or if you just want to enjoy some beautiful weather by the water, KC's is definitely...

Warning: We're BBQ snobs, so it takes a lot to move the needle for us.
The brisket portions were generous. No discernable smoke ring, and all of the bark was on fatty sections, so it wasn't possible to enjoy that. Regrettably it was overcooked to the point of having the texture/consistency of pot roast.
Additionally, it was cut in the wrong direction. Cutting brisket flat against the grain is BBQ 101. Unfortunately, that misstep made it impossible to overcome and still enjoy the meal.
The baked beans were okay, but the potato salad was bland. The potatoes were almost minced, and the texture as a result was a little distracting. Usually there will be a little bit of egg, onion/garlic and other seasoning, and that didn't seem to be present.
The pulled pork was all right, but as with the brisket, my wife kept having to go back to the sauce for flavor. In our experience, the meat should have its own flavor - rub and natural flavor enhanced by the smoke - and never NEED sauce. It can be a nice addition, but certainly not required.
The staff we interacted with was very friendly, and the location was great. Definitely off the...
